THE PEEPS RESURECTION
An homage to the ever popular PEEPS! My
traditional Easter post,enjoy!
I was anxiously awaiting spring this year,as we
had such a long cold winter! I have several flowering trees and shrubs in the
yard,it was glorious to see them begin to show their spring colors!! Then for no
good reason,Mother nature SLAMMED in a cold front,(must have been an early
April fool's joke..and we lost most all of the flowers on trees,my red bud just
ready to show her brilliant purple color..including the tulips who's limp leaves
are laying on the ground and no flowers!! {sigh}..
As I was speaking to my girlfriend in Atlanta
about the rituals of spring,I asked her if she liked to buy Peeps..you know
those marshmellow-y adorable yellow-pink-purple baby chicks..They are always
such a cheerful spring herald,with their little beady eyes and adorable faces,if
you look closely at them they all seemed to have their own personality! Not to
mention a delectable soft chewy goodness. I never really felt they minded being
eaten..
But I was horrified to hear my girlfriends yearly
ritual: " We just wait til after Easter when they are on sale..I buy some and
take them to work and we all go into the lunchroom and put them in the microwave
and blow them up".
"Blow them up? What do you mean "blow them up?" I
was asking her nervously.This sounded very disrespectful to the Peeps.After
all,they expected to be eaten.But not obliterated.
"Well,we put them in the microwave and they blow
up really big,and look like an Easter egg with a face..and then they blow
up.."
I was stunned at this act of violence and
disrespect..clearly she didn't have the proper reverence for the
Peeps.
At this very sad revelation, I decided to offer a
more traditional celebration of Spring and Easter,sharing a video of new
life.
So I wont show you my garden,nor regale you with
more unfortunate sagas of Peeps,
but I will show you a 13 day old hamster named
MOCHA.He is a doll,and is enjoying his first whole food,which happens to be
broccoli!
