Yesterday I spent the
better part of digging out of a heavy ice storm. There was an enormous layer of
ice to chip away, a layer of snow, and another
layer of ice. It was
hard work, worst storm I had seen for a long time.
I have some elderly
people who live across the street from me. I started to clear part of their
steps and sidewalk, and their next door neighbor came out.
I asked her if
she and her husband would help me clear their driveway.
I got alot of excuses
from both she and her husband.
I thought to
myself,
"Don't they remember
that this guy is elderly?"
I was standing on the
sidewalk and a car began spinning its wheels, the streets had not been cleared
by the city yet.
"Lets go push that
car!" I yelled to my neighbor.
"I am taking Bob to the
doctor. I dont want to get dirty." was her reply.
I stood there, taking
all of their remarks in,stunned really.
"No,I don't want to
help my elderly neighbor, and no I am not helping the car that is in
trouble,because I don't want to get dirty."
If there is anything
that I could offer you this season of love, its to remember that we are all one.
We are all in this together, and if we lose that compassion we have for one
another,we have not learned the real meaning of love.
So reach out,be a
friend,do a kindness for a stranger,and feel warm inside. It doesn't take a lot.
It does a heart good.
My sincerest blessings
to you all in this season of love, and warmest holiday
wishes,
Auroealis
