Pitfalls and Scams
Here are a few scams to watch for:

The Guided Meditation~ This is the easiest cop out for a so called advisor with limited skills or not much to say because they can sit in silence with you on the phone with the meter ticking away burning up your credit card. It promises to bring back a lover, shift the energies in your favor. It is praying on a desperate person's willingness to do ANYTHING to try and redirect the way their life is going.

Object to Focus~ This is where a gypsy who intends to keep your item asks for something of yours it's usually jewelry or expensive. They need it to remove a curse on your family, bring you good luck, return a lover the reasons are endless one thing you can be sure of..... if you send it you will not see it again.Video

Send Money Western Union~ This is where you need to pay for supplies like candles or who knows what to aid your cause or return a lover etc. Usually it's for some spell. There is no way to verify if this person bought a candle they probably went to Macy's all you have is their word which is worth nothing! Keen forbids diverting funds from the site most people do not report it b/c they fear being cursed by an evil spell. 9 times out of 10 the person asking you to send money has only the power of street smarts and hustling. **I got a private email from a client saying she had been asked to actually mail cash via registered mail. The scammer stated it was to bury as part of a spell. She promised to return it after she performed the spell and when this client tried to get her money back the woman blocked her. She sent a few thousand  and also paid for the spell! IMAGINE!**

Spells~ Spells can work but here is how... you believe in them!  Your mind has a lot of power if you think these rituals are going to make something happen with absolution and faith, then it will! However,  you can just as easily go buy "The Secret" and unlock your own inner magic. If you fear someone hexed you it is your fear and constant looking for something bad to happen you are willing it in. If a spell caster seeks to perform a black spell for the intent of harm or misfortune they have to tip off the subject in some way to launch the fears to set it in motion. It works because of you and your thoughts. I often say that extremely religious people who fear Satan is always around trying to cause trouble in their lives evoke trouble. Imagine if this much effort was devoted to strictly to the beauty and teachings of Christ?

Your thoughts are incredibly powerful, you can paint the world the way you see it. If you say things like "there must be a dark cloud following me" or "I have the worst luck" then this is what you draw like a magnet. I learned the hard way with the previous statement.

When I was 19 I toppled over and tore some ligaments in my ankle. It prevented me from returning to a job where I was sexually harassed then when I reported it I was demoted from my title with the same pay. I was sad there. This injury freed me. As it came time to return to work, I had a freak accident. I set a pile of silverware on the counter to wash the counter filled up with water and a large kitchen knife floated off the counter landing across my barefoot. It made a tiny cut ...but it was the tendon to my big toe. Again I was on crutches unable to work. I started saying, "I have bad luck" and "what could happen next?" I got my answer each and every time. In that year I had 9 separate accidents 17 broken bones and 3 minor surgeries. Why? Well for one I never wanted to go back to that job so I willed in the one thing that made it impossible to do so. I did not deal with emotions head on at the time. I let my mind become amused with the idea of a new injury. So be it said the universe. Spells play off your mental thoughts they are psychic warfare that attacks only your fears to manifest them. Be strong. Be smart. Do not buy a bunch of hot air and promises. A love cannot come back if their mind is made up never to do so. Because they are strong in their convictions. A REAL psychic can tell you if there's still a chance.  A compassionate psychic will tell you the truth tactfully if there is not a chance and help you move on. Beware of the word soulmate too. If a reader tells you the mild work crush is your soulmate, or an ex who is not speaking to you any longer is who you are destined to be with common sense says otherwise.  A soulmate is open, they match your level of interest, they would die to spare your life. There are very few relationships that reach that level sad but true. I assure you if you meet your soulmate you will not have to ask a single person, you will just know and they will too. It's a silent mutual understanding.

AWESOME BLOG!! RIGHT ON SISTER!

# re: Pitfalls and Scams @ Monday, April 28, 2008 8:55 AM

Thanks for the heads-up.   One advisor had me boil a pot of water for a spell DURING my call.  It was a large pot.  What a waste of money.  Especially when prayer is free.

# re: Pitfalls and Scams @ Monday, April 28, 2008 9:27 AM

Thank you for this enlightening blog.  I have fallen for some of these pitfalls myself and in looking back realize I was being taken advantage of by the "so called" advisor.  I allowed my emotions to cloud my common sense and thinking.  It has been a very costly lesson.  Very costly in emotions and monetarily.  I could or should have been taking that time to spend one on one with my Heavenly Father in prayerful conversation.  I would have lost nothing, and gained everything in a deeper clearer relationship with my Savior. Love makes us do very stupid things, and I am embarrassed to say I allowed this to happen to me.  I have learned that I just need to trust in God's will for my life and nothing else. Wait for the answer to my prayers to come in His timing not mine.  I am trying very hard to come to peace with what appears to be a reality I never wanted to face.  The loss of the love of my life.  Forever this person will be in my heart and I will be in love with this man until I breathe my last breath of life, but I realize now he must not feel the same. So I must learn to go on with my life, trusting that God in His grace and mercy will see me thru and I will heal in time.
Thank you for your honest and truthful Blog and I pray that many read it before they are scammed like I was.  God bless you always.

Suebee5348,
I want to share a true story with you. I used to give relationship advice with a nail file in my hand for 12 years I was a manicurist. My clients would always be astounded how I knew their boyfriends and husbands so well w/o ever having met them. I had two clients both close in age who had just moved to the area and wanted to go out and meet people they used to ask me to go. they were both 15 to 20 years older and I just didn't think we would like the same places so I booked their appointments back to back and they went out on the town. After a few months passed Jan started dating a man that Amy worked with she fell in love. He was smart funny and liked the same books and everything. Jan was devestated to learn Amy had started hooking up with Steve her co-worker behind Jan's back. Jan was almost 40 she had 4 younger sisters all who had married except her. She had big hopes about Steve. She had given up and she was deeply betrayed by her only friend in a new area it was an all new low. She swore off love, gave up decided not to even open to being hurt. She asked me why would this happen to me?
I felt horrible because in a way I was resposible! She would have never met Amy if it wasn't for me. As she cried while I did her nails that day I prayed that she find her love. I told her get away from here go on a trip anything. "Funny you should say that I work for a cruise line and b/c I was crying at work my boss is sending me away on one of the boats" said Jan. I got this electric feeling...but I didn't say a word....

# re: Pitfalls and Scams @ Monday, April 28, 2008 10:03 AM

Jan came back in 3 weeks later. She had met a guy. I said you know this is the guy you are going to marry right? "she shhsshed me saying don't jinx it, I have such horrible luck" This man tried for daysin the begining to talk to her and each time she pushed him away saying "I am not here to meet anyone" This made him more determined. It was also the first time in her life she had not desperately locked on to a new love interest hoping to join her sisters in matrimony. He was from California and she was in Miami. They talked every night the distance drove him crazy so he proposed. My wedding invitation had a message Jan had handwritten it said,"....if it hadn't been for you I wouldn't be here!"  God does set up things in some of the craziest ways imaginable. Jan had to feel the worst pain of her life first before her husband to be came to her. Trust that when the world seems darker than ever it is always followed by a bright light!

Wow Thanks for the info -I know I was conned once with a lady who was asking me to just sit and be cleansed--didn't take me too long to hand up and mark her number as do not call back !! You have always been so open and honest with your advice-and pretty much right on the money when it came to how things worked out! Thank you!!

Another scam is when the adviser starts going round in circles saying the same thing over and over because they do not have anything left to add. They are just holding you on the line.

I think if you are uncomfortable with how the reading is going and/or you feel you are being duped you should end the call.  I recommend finding some readers that you trust and sticking with them or try someone referred to you.  I have many people call me and tell me so many other readers say this or that...I can only vouch for myself and I give honest readings.  Money is hard to come by now and I do my best not to waste my clients time or money.

Dhyanna has helped me thru many heartaches in life! Everyone needs a helping hand now and then. I feel blessed to have found her online. Funny how consumers are weary of the Internet and using credit cards. Having lived in  NYC and LA, I can vouch for the scam artists. I have typically found them to be setting up shop on side streets or in their homes, all while pretending to be authentic psychics. They do more harm then damage. I trust my instincts better nowadays, and try hard to listen to my inner voice in this noisy world... Faith and prayer works for me. Some ppl. are more attuned (like Dhyanna who works on her talents constantly) but they do not try to manipulate what you do. I have had self-proclaimed psychics tell me I was being cheated on, or not, tell me to break up or not,  it's harmful and... often inaccurate! Thanks for posting these tips! Aquariusgirl :)

# re: Pitfalls and Scams @ Monday, April 28, 2008 9:28 PM

Excellent post.  The very first time I called Keen the adviser told me I was under a curse, but if I would send her $500 via Western Union... I quickly ended the call and found another adviser.

I steer far away from anyone who claims to be 100% accurate.  No one can be 100% accurate about anything as we are all imperfect humans.  I also read the feedback comments very carefully.  And I avoid those who offer spells, especially those who claim that they can get your lover back.  As already stated, no one can interfere with another's free will, and really, all a 'spell' can do is invoke the Law of Attraction.  I too would recommend reading 'The Secret' before spending hundreds of dollars for someone to cast a spell.

There are good advisers here who really sincerely want to use their talents to help others.  But at the same time, it is 'buyer beware.'  If something just doesn't seem right move on and look for someone else.

Really a good blog and thank you for writing it.  It does need to be said over and over again.  As a practitioner of the magickal arts.  I DO believe in magick, but I also believe in ethics.  As an ethical advisor, I find this exceedingly sad that people will prey on the weakness of others for their own financial gain.

I wrote my own blog on this practice over 4 years ago.  I also posted it here on keen blogs in early March.  Again it bears repeating.

Although I did take a little heat from my blog, most people were totally agreeable.

My clients call me for psychic advise, not to burn a candle and meditate with them while the minutes tick by.  When I tell clients that I will pray for them and light a candle (and I often do just that).  It's all on my time and my dime period!!

Outstanding!  Yes, callers beware!  A true psychic will tell you if they are not 'picking up' on something and will know if the caller wishes to talk about.. Like one Advisor said here that she does not do meditiation online - I am the same way.  I do this for my callers in my own meditaions, alone.

One time, many years ago, I called Keen deepley in grief over the death of my son as she had alot of points, etc.  I just wanted to hear something from my son.  She started by repeating my name for about 5 minutes, stated something and this his for about 10 minutes and then claiming to have him now.  Very expensive and I was vulnerable so don't beat yourself up folks.  I should have hung up instantly or atleast after a couple of mins as she was obviously "stealing" my money out of my grief.

Great Post!

Ancestral Wisdom first of all I am deeply sorry that happened to you in that state of mind. I am no stranger to the grieving process. I find that form of scam the lowest and most despicable. I too went searching for a message from the otherside here at keen. One advisor said sorry and hung up on me wheich was kind seeing she wasn't able to connect. I do know a few names that nailed things he would say, the situation and delivered a message if you wish to email me. Bryan contacts me all the time but I needed someone else to deliver it.

Another thing to watch out for is the scammer who "gets around" the law by telling you he/she will do the spell for free; you just need to pay for the materials. Technically you're not buying a "spell"; you're just paying for the candles, stones, etc. But they're invariably incredibly expensive candles and stones.

The reality is most rituals only require common materials often found in the kitchen or readily obtainable at the market.

True Jon but spells are based on a trust the person you are paying actually lifted a finger in your cause.

I had no idea this stuff was going on. I honestly thought a lot of "the sending money via transfer" was stopped. Well naive me! Makes me very sad. I have had to think long and hard about how I felt about being in a profession that had such shysters associated with it.  Unfortunately this hurts others as those of us who abhor dishonesty find ourselves pulling back to protect ourselves and others.

I hope clients keep advised on such going ons but also realize how many of us struggle to continue reading, when we feel we do not want to be connected, in any way, to such practices.

Lady Hope the gypsies no longer need to travel the world comes to them via the internet! These scams have been passed through their families. Like the one with the jewelery to be used in a spell or focus object. Now we know why when you google the word gypsy or fortune teller an image comes up of a woman in a scarf wearing a bunch of rings bracelets and necklaces. She is proud of them all because none of them she had to pay for they all represent a victim.

Beware of being depressed, desperate because you may be scammed and charged a LOT of money. Please see comment by Carmen miro ..." Sends everyone the same email..." This is true. Have read this e-mail from 3 different sources, same person (Don't know her real name, but initially spoke to her as "Abby" then later as "Suri". By the way, the contact phone numbers have not changed. If she has helped me I am thankful, if she has scammed me that was a rotten thing to do). Here they are:
psychicsuri@yahoo.com, psychicabby1@yahoo.com, Evelyn Moss psychicevelyn@yahoo.com. Found ALL these on website "Free Tarot | Horoscopes | Psychic Reading | NewAgeStore.com" while looking at cards in Cartomancy. Latest one is "www.psychicbringsloveback.com" featuring SURI. By the way websites look similar, have similar claims. What to look for: double letters in name, also for the number 2, and double digits or repeats in phone number (SURI 1 FREE READING  1(866)503-5454 or international 001(305)466-3004). Not sure but this is associated with tarot cards, letters in alpabet? b = 2, so bb = 22, or the letter v = 22 master number = number of cards in a tarot deck (do look-up on Internet), the letter L is 12th # (do look-up, means meeting soulmate). I have had a very expensive education, so the practice is to "double" fees, money in multiples of 2. So $200, $400, $2000, $4000. Note that the initial fee is $200 in the e-mail mentioned by Carmen miro.
Here is the actual e-mail:
I feel that you have some psychic ability yourself. I also sense that there is a strong depression around you lately. I feel that this person who loves you very much through their heart, but their mind is not with you 100% at the moment. I feel that you need help
with this. I am a shaman. Where there is a level of 6 to reach for a psychic,a shaman starts at the level 9. This is the difference in power. I would like to help you. Through my work i will fast for 3 days and 3 nights, free myself from any world like energies and
enter your soulmate's mind trough my
energiestransferring to them. From there i will see the negative thoughts and fears this person is having and replace them with positive ones, passion and romance
will be back in their mind. Within 3 days you will have or reunite with your love.Whati need from you to start 1. I will have to speak to you by phone or e-mail 1 or 2 times a day. 2. My work is not for entertainment. This is real results. You need to be sure of this. 100% devotion into this person.3.Ametal object that was touched by them. (Lighter, coinoranything) that you will work with on your end for vibereasons. 4. FAITH, TRUST AND HONESTY.
5.a one time feeof $200.00 for all my work Thank you
and GODBLESS i think you should know there is a spirit
that passed from cancer watching over you Please call

Doubledown

# re: Pitfalls and Scams @ Sunday, December 14, 2008 6:23 PM

I was just scammed by Evelyn Moss too.  I am ashamed to have fallen for her initially, but I did.  I did pay the initial "one time fee" of $200 via Western Union, which ended up costing $229 because of the wire transfer fee that Western Union charges.  I have been in telephone contact with "Evelyn", who claims to be Egyptian from Cairo, for two days, when she told me that my case was very special and difficult, and she needed to perform a very unique ritual that required some clay from Egypt (sounded like she was going to make a couple of woodoo dolls out of clay if you ask me), and she needed a "deposit" of $1500.  That's when I hung up on her.  So yeah, I am out of $229 for my own naiveté, but I did learn my lesson.
It is easy to take advantage of people who are in sad or desperate situations, are depressed or confused.  I may be all of the above, but at least I woke up from my illusion in time before she scammed me out of $1500.
