Introduction
Chapter 1
The Definition of Happiness
Webster defines happiness as "a state of well-being and contentment i.e. Joy" The purpose of this book is to explore strategies that can help us achieve and maintain that state. While it is not the author's intention to propose a Candide outlook on life, it may be that Voltaire was right in that this is "the best of all possible worlds", since we individually and collectivley can create a our own practical, personal utopia if we use the right process.
The following concepts are a meaningful attempt to define methods that will allow us to create Joy in our life. (Please note that the methodology described in this book is based on the authors observations and research. It is not intended to replace the services of professionals in the field of psychology, medicine, finances or any other field that requires certification.)
Chapter 2
We begin the journey with the necessity of Physical Health.
All of us have heard the phrase - "At least you have your health" This balm is often intended to mitigate the sorrows that we have expressed. It is like saying, it could only get better or more exactly, it could only get worse.
Yet, this view reinforces a victim strategy that is not part of meaningful personal growth. You are responsible for your life. You are responsible for your happiness. And the first component of that happiness is physical health. And yes, for the most part, you are responsible for your physical health. This chapter will explore proven methods of maximizing your physical well being at nearly any age.
Chapter 3
Mental Health
How can we define mental health? Freud did by stating that it is " the ability to work and to play" I feel that these two activities should be intertwined. But more on that, later.
How about a sense of humor? All of us have seen driven people who work hard and play hard and are miserable. They barely can muster a smile when faced with life's incongruities.
The Spartans embraced the concept of a "sound mind in a sound body." This chapter will explore what it means to have that "sound mind" and in the face of life's challenges and how to maintain it.
Chapter 3
Spiritual Health
We have all heard the expression "Faith can move mountains". Why is it then that so that many of us are dissapointed with our lives? Do we not believe, stongly enough? This chapter explores ways that we can create our own positive future with the help of the Divine.
Chapter 4
Time to be Grateful
Got Gratitude? You may be surprised about how many things that, for which, you can be grateful. I will help you make a list and check it twice. And yes, it does make a difference if you are naughty or nice.
Chapter 5
Hope springs Eternal
The bottom of a wishing well may not be endless. But hope is. We all hope for things and events in our lives. Some these wishes are good for us and achievable and some of these are not in our best interest. The trick is knowing the difference.
Chapter 6
Get Lucky!
Are you lucky? More than one might think, it all begins with certain assumptions. In this chapter, we will explore the common traits of lucky people and see how we can apply their good fortune to our lives.
Chapter 7
Love Your Yourself
This is where it all begins. So, why so late in our list of strategies. Find out how the building blocks of the previous chapters can help you fall completely in love with yourself. Narcissists need not apply.
Chapter 8
Love Your Work
Work equal fun equals play equals work. Did not I confuse the formula? I think not. Let us explore how we can find the work that will inspire us and build the foundation for a more productive life.
Chapter 9
Love Your Family
We all start somewhere. Whether it is the gleam in your parent's eye or artificial insemination. We all start somewhere. Let's examine how your parents shaped your life, your relationship with them and how we can improve it.
Chapter 10
Love Your Friends
Whether it is an imaginary friend or "friends for life", our friends define who we are. This chapter discusses what is true friendship is and how to achieve it.
Chapter 11
Love Your Soul mate
Have you found your soalmate or are you still searching? Romantic love is one the most important keys to happiness. Yet often, better the comfort of solitude than the misery of company. Find out how to attract and keep the one who will become your better half.
Chapter 12
Love Your Community
Once you have achieved balance in self, family, friendship and love a higher goal exists. You have learnt many lessons and now is the time to give back..
Chapter 13
Love Your Planet
There may be millions of planets in this universe that can support life. But this is the one that we habitate. Here we explore practical strategies to maintain the homeostasis of this beautiful green orb.
Chapter 14
Love Your Destiny
You can only play with the cards that you are dealt. Guess what, you are the dealer. Here is how to make the most of the path that you are on.
