Kinesiology / Muscle Testing

Muscle testing is a way to use the body as a sort of divination tool to connect with it's innate wisdom and the higher self. First time trying it, I found it less complicated and quicker than using a pendulum. There are many different ways to do it: either on yourself, on another person, or acting as a surrogate for another person. However, basically, it is a way to be able to answer "yes/no" questions using the muscles and muscle strength.

With muscle testing you need to first have a question or statement for which to receive a yes or no answer to. You will know if the answer is a "yes" because the muscle tested will respond "strong". If the answer is a "no" the muscles will respond "weak". To begin a muscle testing session, one of the first things to do to make sure you are getting a proper"yes" and "no" response. So one of the first statements to make would be regarding something you know is a yes response. For example: "my name is Samantha". I should get a strong muscle response because that is my name. If I then say "my name is Mary Ann" (which it is not) my muscles should go weak. I remember the first time I had it done to me way back in the early 90's and did not know what it was or why some person was having me hold out my arm and was pushing it down. I also did not know why when she asked some questions and pressed down my arm would go weak and I could not feel strength to hold it parallel and other questions it would. I guess it operates the same way some people can use body signals to tell when someone is lying. Anyways, this muscle testing is used in EFT as well as a few other therapies as well, to get information about the body, the state of emotions or a lot of others things as well.

Basically, I was trying a number of ways to self-muscle test and some ways for me are just more natural that others. One way was to pinch both of your thumbs and forefingers together so that they kind of make the shape of an eye and then to use the one on the right hand inserting it into the hole/eye made on with left thumb and forefinger (you can reverse the hands - left into right - if more comfortable). With the right thumb and forefinger, open them in a way that they act like a level. You want to see if opening them will cause the pinched circle you created with your thumb and forefinger to break apart (un pinch). The idea is to try to keep your left hands pinching strong but relaxed. It's not a test of physical strength. Testing your name the pinch should not open and you should feel your fingers on the left hand strong enough to stay shut. Testing a name that is not yours as you (not as surrogate) your fingers should go weak and not through trying to make them so, just feels like you can't keep them strong.

Another method I particularly like and find less interference with is similar but gives you less time to think. Start with the thumb and forefinger of one hand pinched and forming an eye. Then you use your right forefinger as a wand and insert it into the eye almost as deep as your second knuckle on your finger.

Now once you formed a yes/no statement or question in the mind, state it and then use you use your finger as a wand and lightly try to sweep it through where your fingers are pinched together to try to cause the connection to break. With your other hand though you want to keep them pinched together. Don't let your mind interfere and try to abstain from judgment. If your finger is able to sweep through like below picture, it is a "no" cause your pinched fingers muscles went "weak".

If your finger does not swipe through (I usually move from left to right), then that is a "yes" response cause your pinched fingers remained strong and stayed together.

Keys to successful muscle testing:

  1. Both the therapist and the client (or just yourself if doing self-testing} should be properly hydrated or muscle testing might produce unclear results.
  2. Both or yourself should aim to remain as detached to an outcome as possible and as open as possible. Anticipation and conscious resistance can both influence results. Sometimes, if I am feeling way to attached to an outcome and not sure if I manipulated a result, I will use a tarot card and tell from reading it or you can use odd numbers is no, even is yes.
  3. Rub the collar bone points (the junction where collarbone meets breast bone} to get the meridians flowing in the right direction on both therapist and client or just yourself if self-testing.
  4. Focus your intention on valid results and on what you are testing. You can even state an intention before starting.
Holding breath or tension in the body can confuse results.
  5. If working on someone else, you should not make eye contact during the muscle testing and make sure the client knows it's not a test of physical strength.

Now going back to reversals, these are really good techniques for testing to see if reversals apply to you and if and when you clear them using EFT. So, that being said, what again are reversals? See previous blogs on EFT.
