The Hierophant Tarot Card#5
The Hierophant is a very interesting card. In old days it represented an individual whom was a figurehead for the ruling Government as well as the Religious Sector. We have no modern day equivalent to this particular card since we have division of church and state.

This card is called the Pope in some decks. The Fool is continuing his journney, now coming upon the Hierophant. The Hierophant represents tradition, benediction, instituitons amd hierarchy. This is a new vibration for the Fool. He has previously learned about the inner and outer manifestation of Male and Female through the previous four cards and now he is exposed to the structure of society outside of himself. The Hierophant is the Guardian of the Mysteries (Esoteric Knowledge). He exposes the Fool to the polarities of being human; good and bad, light and dark, etc. In a reading, the querent is about to begin an initiation of some sort. Often times, The Hierophant also implies changing the structure of an institution while working within that said structure ( ie the whistleblower, the union rep). The Fool is learning about struggle and how to make sense of the outside world.
