Remain peaceful during this economic crisis

In light of the current economic crunch and looming recession many people are having major anxieties of what's to come. Our society has been so focused on living the "dream" for decades that we have lost sight of what we want. Most of our lives we choose our paths based on what we're told we should want. We chase the "dream" of having a house, a nice car, a family, vacations, building wealth and good health. While there is nothing wrong with these things it invalidates what is truly important and lasting.

In my childhood I had a reoccurring vision in which I would see everyone standing in a field naked. In that vision it became very apparent that no matter what class, race or belief system someone came from, we were in fact all created equal. Those that knew who they were stood stall and unashamed. Those that relied on material status to define them were curled up hiding their nakedness. Those that relied on what others thought of them were terrified. Some were clinging to others in an attempt to hide them from view. The ones that shined the brightest in my vision were those that were very clear in relationship to God and Self. The children were the most happy and free of all. The elderly seemed relieved to be released from their burdens. In many ways, that vision is beginning to come to pass.

If the economy crashes tomorrow or next week, do you know what you would want or need? The obvious comes to mind, food and sustenance, shelter and being with those we love. The media is feeding us fear based ideas and illusions that keep up caught in the maze of deception. Many think the new President will save us from our coming ills. Many think it's a lost cause and are fearful of what is next.

The only thing we can control is our beliefs, thoughts and actions. We have to choose with our freewill that which we create in our own lives. If you fear dying, you will do many things to hold onto illusions of living. Death is not a thing to be feared for it truly is a rebirth into the state of permanence and true being. We are Spirit, not the flesh that houses our Spirits. This world is temporal and the experiences we have here are temporal as well.

If you were to lose all material things tomorrow, where would you be? What would you choose to create? Will you choose to view your life as worthless? Will you choose to see it as a blessing and an opportunity to create something real in that moment? No one can make you happy. Nothing outside of yourself can make you happy or offer you peace. God is within you and only by going within can you feel FULL - FILLED.

Now is the time to consider what it is you truly need and want for your life. Now is the time to prioritize your values, desires and needs. Decide what is important to you. Decide who you are going to BE and BE that now. Don't wait for someone to tell you what is important for your life. Only you can choose to decide what will give you peace. Spirit urges you to find value in things that are real and permanent. Don't let anything outside of yourself affect your state of being and rob you of your peace.

Pray for one another. Love one another. Forgive all transgressions from others and forgive yourself. Live each moment like it is the final moment you have to experience this life expression now. Be present and be ever vigilant to discard fearful thoughts and actions. Do not react to the illusions of fearful thoughts being thrown at you. Prepare for the veil of illusions to be dropped and rejoice when it does. The moment for the curtain to be pulled back and the Wizard of Oz to be revealed as small and insignificant is now. Like Dorothy we have always had the power to return home. Home, where the source of All That Is resides within us, that creates peace that surpasses all understanding.

In closing, Spirit is calling us to a state of Love and Compassion for all. By allowing yourself to see the truth, you are empowering yourself and becoming free of all illusions. Remember, Life is the state of your Spirit, Soul and Being it is not the title you've been assigned, the car you drive or the clothes you wear. Life is far more then appearing "successful" in worldly terms. Life is an expression of God's creation in a unique way called You!!

Many Blessings of Peace, Joy and an Abundance of Love!

Dear Bernadette: Great post! In Western culture we are taught almost from birth to look outside ourselves for happiness - that's how they manage to keep selling us things we don't really need! We seem to forget that you can't buy happiness - it resides within us. I think this is the main premise behind the Eastern philosophy of practicing non-attachment. Some believe that attachment/dependency is the root of all sorrow in our lives. It's not that we shouldn't love, but that we must remember that we really don't "own" anything. We have to remember that we really can't take it with us. We become too obsessed with finding our identity in our possessions and that's a farce. We need to look within. Everything we really need resides within us. We experience the same problems in relationships if we start to feel as though we own the person. Then we set them and ourselves up for misery. This is common in a culture where we are taught from birth that we must "own" as much as we can if we want to be happy. It's nothing more than an illusion that we buy into that keeps the marketplace thriving and us striving for a goal no one ever intended for us to reach!
Thanks, John
