Troop Withdrawal with Obama??

This is in response to a question from a reader of my blog. The question was whether the troops would be brought home from Iraq when Obama takes office.

While I would love to see a total withdrawal of troops the Tarot says that some troops will stay behind. It will take 3-6 months for a mass withdrawal of our troops, however not all will be returning home. We will still maintain a strong front or presence for the next few years.

I've thrown 3 different spreads regarding this topic. The answers all point to us staying for a while but not with the amount of troops currently there. Obama will not fully address it and will say that the Defense Advisors recommend a continued presence.

Due to ongoing talks and the need for negotiations with the Middle East, Russia, China and Iran we will still be there. Until new agreements can be forged with these areas we will not be leaving completely. It should be a top priority, however Obama first will focus on forging alliances first and then turn to deal with the military presence which will take some time.

By the end of 2009 we will see the majority of the troops stationed in Iraq returned home and dispersed to bases outside of Iraq. There will be a refocusing of our defense resources to protect the homeland and keep the peace at home. That is both encouraging and disturbing. There is definately an air of uncertainty within the US about protests, riots and civil unrest.

I know many of you have relatives in the Armed Forces that have been deployed in the Middle East. I pray for their safe and quick return. We are seeing some movement now in regards to withdrawal which is hopeful. But I see a slower withdrawal process during the first quarter of the new Presidency then would be expected.

Blessings,
Bernadette
