Relationships From All Angles, The Geometry of Relationships
The Geometry of Relationships
Being an Aquarian, and prone to be analytical and logical about all things, inclusive of relationships, I have begun thinking of relationships in relation to Mathematics and in particular, Geometry.
Geometry is a very intricate subject, used by many of the sciences as the ground work for such things as physics, engineering and more. Let’s apply Geometry to the World of Relationships.
First and foremost, the most obvious Geometric Shape that all our aware of is the Triangle, or, more specifically, “The Love Triangle”.
A “Love Triangle” is generally defined by the presence of three entities who are involved emotionally, usually with two of the entities forming the base of the triangle, and one of the entities, (the one involved with both entities at the base), forming the vertex. Frequently it is an equilateral triangle, where the person in the position of the vertex is trying to juggle both “angles” to the persons at the base in a seemingly balanced way.
The Love Triangle can be the Geometry of an affair outside of a marriage, or a relationship outside of what is believed to be the “Primary Relationship” of the Vertex Person. The “Primary Relationship” is usually the relationship that the Vertex Person keeps very public and in the open, the Base Person in the Primary Relationship is usually unaware of the congruent relationship with the Secondary Relationship and is moving forward in good faith that their relationship with the Vertex Person is exclusive.
The Secondary Relationship Base Person is usually aware of the Primary Relationship Base Person but for a myriad of reasons, although aware that their relationship is not exclusive with the Vertex Person, they continue to invest time and energy and love and emotion into supporting the Base of the Triangle.
The Geometry of the Love Triangle is not positive for anyone involved, ultimately one of the entities in the Geometry of this Triangle will be hurt, if not all.
Love Triangles can be “Acute Triangles” that tend to draw the Vertex Person to one side, usually away from the Primary Relationship, but the angle to the Primary Base Person is not broken. They can be in the form of an “Equilateral Triangle”, whereby the Vertex Person is trying to maintain a balanced angle to both persons at the base. Then there is the “Obtuse Triangle”, where neither person at the Base Positions is aware of their congruent opposite. Many forms of Triangular Relationships exist, and they are, to say the least, a difficult and unbalanced Relationship Geometry.
Let’s move on to a different Relationship Geometric, the “Square”. The Square is the most popular and sought after Relationship Geometric, although, it can be a bit bland or boring for the more adventurous among us.
The "Relationship Square" is very traditional in aspect. It is the same length on all sides. It can represent the stable couple moving through life, firmly and balanced, the nuclear family with the million dollar family, (a son and daughter), or the couples who settle for the shape of things as they have no desire to change the shape of their future, either because they are comfortable or because they lack ambition.
Square Relationships don’t allow too many factors into the area of their relationship. They don’t seek adventure, they are fairly self-contained. Socialization is most likely limited to close friends and family and values are usually traditional. Adventure and passion are not part of the Geometry of the Square, but stability and security are.
Many people choose to stay within their Square for fear of change. Squares are at high risk for becoming Triangles at some point in time, as angles are ever changing and one side of the Square may change over time, mutilating the shape of the Square into the Triangle.
Squares are uncomplicated Relationships. The boundaries are well-defined and as long as none of the sides of the Square change in shape, the Square stays intact.
The "Relationship Rectangle" is similar to the Relationship Square in many ways, however, the sides of the Rectangle are not all the same length, although the dynamics are similar, there is more room for the parties within the Rectangle to stretch and grow and the area encompassed is a little broader or wider.
Rectangles are stable Relationships that allow more input from outside sources, yet still very secure for the parties involved.
The "Relationship Parallelogram" is a very interesting one. It usually pertains to entities that are living “Parallel Lives” and frequently, they are the unmanifested Soul Mate relationships of this lifetime.
We may find many synchronistic characteristics in the Relationship Parallelogram, never truly crossing paths, but never truly being disconnected. Sometimes we are together, sometimes apart, but always in sync with each other.
My favorite Relationship Geometric is the "Relationship Circle" and the simplest way to explain it is to liken it to coming Full Circle. We are round, we can roll like a wheel with change, we’ve faced challenges and obstacles and still our shape is intact. Perhaps we started off as a Square and the challenges time brings as we moved along forced us to lose our rough edges so that we could be mobile and roll, or perhaps we started off as a Triangle or went from Square to Triangle to Circle, it makes no difference.
The Circle can grow, but it never loses its’ shape. It can expand to increase its’ area, but it does not lose it’s shape, it can shrink to close in to protect itself, but it never loses it’s shape.
To me, the Relationship Circle is the best and most dynamic Relationship Geometric, and I find it to be the happiest in the long run. You can always expand or contract your circle as you adjust, and the Circle is the easiest to transport through life’s transitions, it can actually carry you, instead of you carrying it.
So, that is my view on The Geometry of Relationships.
