Do You Believe In Angels?

It was cold and sleeting that mid December afternoon in 1988 when my son and I left the surgeon's office. My son had a growth on his spine that needed to be removed and the surgery was scheduled for January 6. I was so consumed with worry that I almost didn't see her standing there - a tiny, elderly nun, maybe five feet tall and 90 pounds, if that much. She had a very concerned look on her face as she peered outside thru the glass doors, at the cold December weather. I asked her if I could help her with something and she told me she couldn't find a ride home. I thought this was a little odd as nuns always travel together and no one would leave a nun stranded anywhere, at least that is what I remembered from school.

I offered her a ride back to the convent and she readily agreed. We talked about many things during the drive, everything from my grade school memories to where I was attending church. She had a way of always turning the conversation back to me and my upbringing and faith. She was even able to pull my 15 year old son into the conversation. This was no small feat as he was in the midst of trying to be the world's worst teenager.

When we arrived at the convent, this tiny nun placed her hand on my shoulder, as she did, I felt this wonderful feeling of peace as she said: "Be close to God because you never know when you will need Him and believe.  He will not fail you."

With that statement she quickly left the car saying thanks and disappeared inside the convent's side door. I wasn't sure what I had felt or if it was real, but I did know I felt stronger and more at ease about my son's surgery.

Six days into the new year of 1989, my son had his surgery and it was successful and I nearly forgot about the little nun. The turbulence at home became worse between my son and me over the next several weeks and on the first of March, he and his best friend ran away from home.

For three days I prayed night and day that they would be ok. I do believe in angels and once again I thought of the little nun who told me to remain close to God because I might need Him. I really needed Him now, and then on the third night I received a call from the Tennessee State police that said they had picked the boys up and they were safe. That was a long way from Wisconsin for two teenagers traveling alone. My son came home and just as I thought life would settle down, I ended up having major heart surgery on March 28. It all turned out well and six weeks later I was recovered and turned 40 years old. This birthday seemed special because I had recovered, was feeling wonderful and thanking God for the miracle He had given me because I could have lost my life if the surgery had not been done quickly. I was slowly settling into a quiet life when once again everything shattered around us again.

On June 21, my mother-in-law passed away unexpectedly and just as we tried to stop reeling from that tragedy, my father was admitted to the hospital on July 25 with a diagnosis of terminal cancer. Life was a blur of hospital visits and radiation treatments and bringing him home just to have to readmit him. We lost him just 35 days later on August 29th.

I always say that 1989 was the worst year of my life and I don't know how I survived it all, but then I remember the tiny nun and the warmth that passed through me from her touch.  Peace beyond understanding.

I truly believe in angels and that God sent her to prepare me for the year ahead. I am not sure if she really was a nun and God used her as His vehicle of grace or if she came directly from heaven to that spot near the doors of the medical clinic that cold December afternoon, but I do know that she was MY angel ... and I will always believe in angels.

The Hands of God Story

This is an angel story about my car and the hands of God. There must have been an angel that day. I'm an epileptic. I have seizures if I don't get enough rest. I've been in a lot of wrecks. Cars, four-wheelers, canoes, but the worst one I've had, I don't even remember.

I was going to work one morning. I'm sure I must have been in the hands of God. It was early and I was pretty tired. I thought I had enough sleep, but I guess I didn't. I was about 20 minutes away from work so I turned on my CD player and started singing one of my favorite songs. Awesome God is the name of the song. But anyway, I had just passed a very busy part of the highway, filled with stop lights and allot of morning traffic. After I passed out, I don't remember anything except waking up and a paramedic telling me that I could look for my glasses later. She told me that I had to go to the hospital.

If you have seizures then you know what I'm talking about. You don't remember what happened in that length of time. The hands of God came to my rescue. At the same time I was wrecking one of my buddies' co-workers saw my crash. I owned a little 89 Escort GT. Three different shades of red and pretty ugly. He said that he was going about 75 to 80 mph, and that I passed him like he was sitting still. After passing him, I drove straight into the medium and took out a construction sign. Then I drove into oncoming traffic all the way over to the emergency lane. Then I cut back to the medium and flipped my car on its side then on the roof and when I was on the other side of the road I flipped again this time doing a complete end over end. I landed on my wheels pointing toward the road in a field beside the road. The guy said when I passed him I was all stretched out and my head looking toward the ceiling. And just before I had my seizure something told me to put my shoulder belt on. My injuries were two bumps on my head. I only had to spend an hour at the hospital. I thank the hands of God for watching over me.

Yes, we do have guardian angels, but God sometimes has to shield us with his hands.

Dave's Guardian Angels Story

I'm Dave and here is my guardian angels story. I have always believed in angels and instinctively knew I had at least one guardian angel. I think all of us receive subconscious signals from our guardian angels from time to time. For example, did you ever find yourself sitting at a red light and, when the light turns green, have an overwhelming feeling NOT to go? Only to see a speeding car run the red light right in front of you a few seconds later? I know I have. Still, the idea of having an actual face to face meeting with my guardian angels seemed a bit hard to believe. Until it happened - one night before my 30th birthday.

It sounds funny now, but there was nothing funny about it at the time. Thirty sounded old. I had read somewhere that reaching the age of thirty was like reaching the top of a hill - the only way to go, mentally and physically, was down. The thought of it literally made me sick.

I went to bed that night thinking about my upcoming birthday - and wishing that I could somehow postpone it another ten years or so. If only I could be nineteen again, everything would be alright.

I drifted off to sleep and found myself standing in the most beautiful landscape I had ever seen in my life. It was too beautiful to describe, as was the feeling of peace, tranquility and joy I felt at finding myself in such a place.

Close your eyes and imagine you are standing out in the countryside. It's a perfect spring day. The sun is shining and it's about 75 degrees. You are standing among gently rolling hills, on grass so green and perfectly manicured it would be the envy of any golf course manager. Scattered among the landscape are cherry trees, each one in full bloom. The sky is a deep rich blue, with a few white puffy cumulous clouds floating by and love is the air you breathe.

It's impossible to find words even remotely adequate to describe the elation I felt at finding myself in such a beautiful place. I could have stayed there forever. That elation, however, was about to be eclipsed by the presence of not one, but two guardian angels. The guardian angels suddenly appeared, walking over the crest of a nearby hill. One was male, one was female. They were walking toward me hand in hand. These guardian angels were wearing identical white robes. Each one radiated peace, compassion, love and beauty - Michelangelo himself could not have imagined more perfect or perfectly beautiful human beings. And I knew in my soul, as they approached, that these perfect beings were 30 years old guardian angels.

They didn't speak a word but telepathically let me know that age had no meaning and that I was as immortal and timeless as they. In that one moment, any fear, trepidation or negative feelings I had ever felt toward anyone or anything vanished. I felt a sense of peace, serenity and joy that cannot be described in words.

My guardian angels smiled and walked back over the hill. But before they left, they let me know that they would always be with me, watching over me - and that I had nothing to fear ever again.

Was it only a dream? I don't think so. I truly believe, with all my heart, that I really had a face to face encounter with my guardian angels - in that wonderful place some call "the other side" or the place that I simply like to call "home."

"Dr. Morse, I have a wonderful secret to tell you. I was climbing a staircase to heaven". Chris, age 8, told me this after being resuscitated when his heart stopped beating as a result of kidney failure. As a Pediatrician and neuroscientist, I have been studying that secret since 1980.

Picture of a child's near death experience

This picture was drawn by a seven year old girl who nearly drowned in a swimming pool.  Above the blue line, we see the girl in a world with flowers. As I expressed complete disbelief at her story, she patted me condescendingly on the hand and told me, "You'll see Dr. Morse, Heaven is fun."

She wanted to stay in heaven, however, a person she thought was Jesus told her that she had to go back to help her mother with medical problems associated with her (then) unborn brother. She didn't know what these problems were as the baby was not born yet. Yet she draws her unborn brother at the bottom of the picture with a big heart in his chest. After this drawing was made, he was born with severe heart disease.

Are You An Angel?

A young man had been to Wednesday night Bible Study. The pastor had shared about listening to God and obeying the Lord's voice. The young man couldn't help but wonder,
"Does God still speak to people?"
After service, he went out with some friends for coffee and pie and they discussed the message. Several different ones talked about how God had led them in different ways.  It was about ten o'clock when the young man started driving home.  Sitting in his car, he just began to pray,
"God...If you still speak to people, speak  to me.
I will listen. I will do my best to obey."
As he drove down the main street of his town, he had the strangest thought to stop and buy a gallon of milk. He shook his head and said out loud,
 "God is that you?"
He didn't get a reply and started on toward home. But again, the thought, buy a gallon of milk. The young man thought about Samuel and how he didn't recognize the voice of God, and how little Samuel ran to Eli.
"Okay, God, in case that is you, I will buy the milk."
It didn't seem like too hard a test of obedience. He could always use the milk. He stopped and purchased the gallon of milk and started off toward home. As he passed Seventh Street, he again felt the urge,
 "Turn down that street."
This is crazy he thought and drove on past the intersection. Again, he felt that he should turn down Seventh Street. At the next intersection, he turned back and headed down Seventh. Half jokingly, he said out loud,
 "Okay, God, I will."
He drove several blocks, when suddenly, he felt like he should stop. He pulled over to the curb and looked around. He was in a semi-commercial area of town. It wasn't the best but it wasn't the worst of neighborhoods either. The businesses were closed and most of the houses looked dark like the people were already in bed. Again, he sensed something,
"Go and give the milk to the people in the house across the street."
The young man looked at the house. It was dark and it looked like the people were either gone or they were already asleep. He started to open the door and then sat back in the car seat.

"Lord, this is insane. Those people are asleep and if I wake them up, they are going to be mad and I will look stupid."
Again, he felt like he should go and give the milk. Finally, he opened the door.
"Okay God, if this is you, I will go to the door and I will give them the milk. If you want me to look like a crazy person, okay. I want to be obedient. I guess that will count for something but if they don't answer right away, I am out of here."
He walked across the street and rang the bell. He could hear some noise inside. A man's voice yelled out,
"Who is it? What do you want?"
Then the door opened before the young man could get away. The man was standing there in his jeans and t-shirt. He looked like he just got out of bed. He had a strange look on his face and he didn't seem too happy to have some stranger standing on his doorstep.
"What is it?"
The young man thrust out the gallon of milk.
"Here I brought this to you."
The man took the milk and rushed down a hallway, speaking loudly in Spanish. Then from down the hall came a woman carrying the milk toward the kitchen. The man was following her holding a baby. The baby was crying. The man had tears streaming down his face. The man began speaking and half-crying,
"We were just praying. We had some big bills this month and we ran out of money. We didn't have any milk for our baby. I was just praying and asking God to show me how to get some milk."
His wife in the kitchen yelled out,
"I ask him to send an Angel with some. Are you an Angel?"

The young man reached into his wallet and pulled out all the money he had on him and put it in the man's hand. He turned and walked back toward his car and the tears were streaming down his face.
He knew that God still answers prayers.

I know angels and I know they have a master plan to help save you ... even from yourself ... your bad choices ... they have a plan to help you in all areas of your life.
Call me today and be blessed.
