In Germany they came first for the Communists,
and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Communist.
Then they came for the Jews,
and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Jew.
Then they came for the trade unionists,
and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a trade unionist.
Then they came for the Catholics,
and I didn't speak up because I was a Protestant.
Then they came for me,
and by that time no one was left to speak up.

How often do we, in a competitive society, think only of ourselves. A competitive society teaches us to look out for ourselves, right? So, what's wrong with that?
If your not operating from a place of strength in a competitive society, it puts you in a place of being vulnerable. To maintain a humane atmosphere and not trodden under foot, the disabled, the weak, the sick, the tired, the confused, the lost, we must show tolerance and compassion for the less fortunate.
In a competitive society it is easy to lose sight of caring for others but it is by caring for others that we create a better society for ourselves and our children. Because one day, you may not be operating from a place of strength and at some point in your life, you may need compassion and charity so as not to be trodden under foot.
In building a society of compassion, into our governments, laws, social services and community projects, we make the world a better place for the crippled, disabled and those weakest among us ... we therefore also create a better world for ourselves.
It has often been said that evil flourishes when good
people do nothing. Have compassion for someone in a
worse situation than you are.
Drop off some food for the homeless shelter. If you see a sale on soap, buy a bunch and take it to a charity or homeless center. What little you can do for someone else, will make a big difference ... goodness, compassion, mercy, charity ... spread it around! Goodness will come back to you, pressed down, shaken together and overflowing!
Don't be quiet ... speak up! Hold up the light!
