Deregulation

Deregulation is the removal or simplification of government rules and regulations that constrain the operation of market forces. Deregulation does not mean elimination of laws against fraud, but eliminating or reducing government control of how business is done, thereby moving toward a more free market. (Referenced from: En.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deregulation).

It is a sad commentary on America when businesses get together and say, let's get rid of the regulations that have put a choke hold on us.  With little or no rules, business has created chaos and they are no longer accountable to anyone.  How very sad is that.  They have proven themselves to be reckless.

When the banks wrote all those bad loans and mortgages, most people don't realize that those loans were designed to fail.  Those homes were expected to return to the banks within seven to nine years.  The people who wanted to own a home were willing to sign the loans and mortgages because they did not know or understand the details of the loan.  They just assumed, blindly, that the bankers and mortgage companies would do right by them and they were wrong.

America must examine it's anti-business ethics.  America must encourage honest growth of any and all legal businesses and America must stop businesses from sending American jobs overseas.  Why are we destroying ourselves?

Have we learned our lessons from the past or are we destined to repeat them?

The Great Depression: A Brief Overview

It has been said that the great depression began with the lowering of morality, self imposed deregulation and corrupt business practices caused a dramatic crash of the stock market when 16 million shares of stock were quickly sold by panicking investors who had lost faith in the American economy.  Many old timers stopped keeping their money in banks and started stuffing their mattresses at home.  The people just did not know who to trust because it seemed as though everyone was lying about their bottom line.

Politicians have forgotten what is right and wrong.  Why would the American government allow our jobs to be sent overseas ... doesn't this look similar to the corruption that was seen during the great depression!  For the government to enact laws that take away jobs from the American people and not have a specific plan to build up the American society contributes to the delinquency, destabilization and destruction of America.  The only people who would want deregulation ... are people who want to take advantage of the public at large.  We need fair regulatory laws to protect the American consumer and the American way of life.

When the government granted deregulatory practices to help people buy homes, they should have known that they were asking for trouble.  They could have just as easily wrote a regulatory practice for urban development and helped fund affordable homes for the disadvantaged.

These predatory lenders created these mafia type mortgages that were a catch 22 within themselves and most people never really understood the none sense behind these wacky mafia mortgages that were designed to fail and take as much money from the buyer as they could and then take there house.  Those mafia mortgages should have been outlawed.  The banks used deregulation to take advantage of the poor.  One month your rent is $900 and then next month your rent is $1,900 and most people did not understand how this was happening to them.  The law makers should have had a check list of rules for buying affordable homes for low income individuals and affordable rules to make house buying more affordable that the lender must also abide by.  Nobody should be allowed to take advantage of anyone else.  Deregulation showed how cold blooded the banking industry could be because the way these mafia loans were written and instituted came straight from the mafia files patsy schemes.

A society is only as civilized as the rules and regulations that govern them.

In all honesty, dishonest businessmen are using deregulations to abuse and steal from the American people.  How very sad is that.  Everyone must be regulated by honest and fair regulations ... even the President of the United States of America.

When the government claimed to assist New Orleans and handed out money to the victims, a lot of the people they gave money to did not even live in New Orleans and were not victims of the natural disaster.  This again, is government corruption.  Millions of dollars given away and wasted to their friends.  Most of the people who benefited from this disbursement were somehow related to those in power in the government, how corrupt is that.

When Dick Cheney helped funnel billions of dollars to Haliburton to fill corrupt war contracts, how unfair is it for him to profit from that when other businesses were not even allowed to bid on the contract, it was just given to Haliburton.  The military personnel complained that things did not work and some supplies never arrived and they could not get any answers.  How unfair is that.  Corruption, greed, evil intent.

Political corruption is the use of legislated powers by government officials for illegitimate private gain. Misuse of government power for other purposes, such as repression of political opponents and general police brutality, is not considered political corruption. Neither are illegal acts by private persons or corporations not directly involved with the government. An illegal act by an officeholder constitutes political corruption only if the act is directly related to their official duties. (Referenced: En.wikipedia.org/wiki/Political_corruption).

There is enough blame to go around and deregulation of laws that were put in place to protect the general public were just tossed aside allowing big business to give a new term to corruption.

When we allow anyone to take advantage of another group of people within our society, we lay a trap for ourselves ... for the evil we let into our society ... will become a monster for us to fight later on!  We are all connected and what affects one part of us; affects society as a whole!

Corrupt men use deregulation laws to take advantage of everyone.  This must not be allowed.  It is possible to have fair and balanced regulations that are fair to everyone.

President Obama said some businesses are too big to be allowed to fail.  That is not true.  If the big business are big enough to practice illegal and immoral corrupt business practices, they deserve to fail.  Furthermore, I will go as far as to say that if President Obama keeps bailing out big businesses, he will soon be voted out of office because it will create a political revolt and have people marching in the streets to oust President Obama.

The very reasoning behind such a statement, too big to fail,  is rediculous.  So, is hell to big to fail.  Will we have to save hell too?  It's none sense political ramblings.  Not only should corrupt companies fail, the officers should be thrown in jail for violation of the public trust.

President Obama should not offer big business any more than he's willing to offer small business.  We should give all businesses the equal opportunity for growth and advancement.

It was corruption that caused the last great depression.  It is so sad that when people are afraid they only think of themselves.  However, if we could find the strength within us to ask for laws that will help us and help our neighbor too ... then we would have the ability to create a better society.  Whose next?  Who will fail next?  We should not think only of ourselves ... ask not for whom the bell tolls ... it tolls for thee.

The Great Depression and Corruption

During the 1920s crime rates soared. They were and still are some of the highest rates in U.S. History of corruption. Unfortunately crime wasn't only committed by civilians. One major scandal that was committed by the government was the “Teapot Dome Scandal.” “The scandals involved public officials who had taken advantage of their position to gain something for themselves” (Howes). These officials happened to be friends of Harding. This scandal was investigated by Senator Thomas J. Walsh. “Walsh's investigations eventually revealed that Doheny and Sinclair had together given Fall approximately $404,000 (about $4 million in 2000) either as loans or as investments in Fall's New Mexico cattle ranch while he was serving in the cabinet” (Kutler). In the end “Fall” was convicted of bribery and became the first presidential member to go to prison. Daugherty and Denby, other government officials were forced to resign.  They were not the first nor the last corrupt individuals to serve in high positions of the government which is why it is so important to have fair and balanced regulations for everyone that will help keep us all honest.  (Referenced: Bizcovering.com/history/corruption-of-the-1920s/).

I was listening to some men talk badly about President Obama because he criticized their embracing deregulatory practices.  They felt that President Obama was talking down to them.  When you look at how deregulation has been abused by banks, predatory lenders, stock brokers and almost everyone to some degree, it's like they were talking down to all of us and dared us to figure it out.

In building a successful society, America must embrace regulations that are not putting an evil choke hold on us but rather regulations that are fair, honest and with good intent of building up the American society and assisting and helping society grow and prosper.  The only people who would not want fair and honest regulations are crooks, thieves, liars and corrupt individuals with something to hide.

One of the hardest lessons, I have learned in my life is that we are all connected.  The more people who are suffering and without, takes away from the quality of my life as well.  It shows itself in different ways but it is evident that if we close our eyes to wickedness, corruption and wrong doing ... it will also find us ... in the end ... we are all connected and we will sink or swim together.

'WHEN THEY CAME ... '

When the Nazi's came for the communists, I remained silent; I was not a communist.  I did not like communists anyway.

When they locked up the social democrats, I remained silent; I was not a social democrat.  Let them fight their own war.

When they came for the trade unionists, I did not speak out;  I was not a trade unionist.  They never did anything for me.

When they came for the Jews, I did not speak out;
I was not a Jew.  Let them settle their own issues.

When they came for me ... there was no one left ... to speak out.  I felt the sting and the fear of injustice with no one to help me.

Paraphrase Reference from: Martin Niemoller's poem; Age-of-the-sage.org/quotations/niemoller_jews_communists_socialists

The following version of Martin Niemoller's famous quotation or poem actually comes from the text of an Address he gave to the United States Congress in 1968 and which appears in the Congressional Record, October 14, 1968, page 31636.

"When Hitler attacked the Jews
I was not a Jew, therefore I was not concerned.
And when Hitler attacked the Catholics,
I was not a Catholic, and therefore, I was not concerned.
And when Hitler attacked the unions and the industrialists,
I was not a member of the unions and I was not concerned.
Then Hitler attacked me and the Protestant church --
and there was nobody left to be concerned."

(We must speak out for what is right, in standing against injustice, we also protect ourselves.  We are all connected).
