In the recent mass murder at Virginia Tech, I am not shocked that the young student had many characteristics of a serial killer. It's not that he was a loner that was disturbing. Many loners are law abiding citizens. It was the fact that he was stressed, disturbed and a ticking time bomb!
Most are white males in their twenties or thirties, who target strangers near their homes or places of work.
Also, 88% of serial killers are male.
Also, 85% of killers are Caucasian.
It is said that 62% of the killers target strangers exclusively.
Another 22% kill at least one stranger.
Also, 71% of the killers operate in a specific location or area, rather than traveling wide distances to commit their crimes"(Apsche, 1993, p.16) although some do travel about committing crimes.
Also, the F.B.I claims that to be classified as a serial killer, the person must first complete 3 separate murders, that are spaced by a duration they call "the cooling off period" which can vary from a few days to years.
A KILLER'S HOME LIFE
To discover what makes a serial killer function, it is necessary to look back into their past, particularly their adolescent life. By looking at many and varied cases, it is evident that virtually all serial killers come from dysfunctional backgrounds involving sexual or physical abuse, drugs or alcoholism and their related problems. I am sensing that Cho Seung-Hui fit this discription. Many traits that seem to be universal in all these serial killers, though in varied amounts, include disorganized thinking, bipolar mode disorders, a feeling of resentment towards society brought on by their failings, sexual frustrations, an inability to be social or socially accepted, over bearing parents and a wild imagination that tends to drag them into a fantasy world. In a chart of serial killer - childhood development characteristics - created by Ressler, Burgers and Douglas (1990), the three most frequently reported behaviors included day dreaming, compulsive masturbation, and isolation.
Remember Aileen Wuornos, female serial killer in Florida. Her life is so very sad. She was thrown out of the house as a child, molested by a man much older than she was, had and lost a child at a very early age and lived out side in the woods during the cold Michigan winters! Where was social services ... society should have intervened and stepped in ... but no one did ... and Aileen Wuornos as abused sexually and physically and felt ostracized, as she should, by society! If someone had just reported the matter and done the right thing ... her life could have been salvaged! After long years of systematic abuse ... she took the power that no one gave her ... and she began to fight back. Thus was born ... another serial killer.
Are we civilized in our society or are we savages! Is money all that matters in this society? When will we learn to value life above wealth? Perhaps we will never rise above the ranks of civilized savages! Where anyone can snap at any given moment!
In most cases, there is an event known as the "Pre-crime stresser", as discussed by Ressler, Burgess, and Douglas (1990). The pre-crime stresser can be looked at as the reason for why the person turns to killing as a form of release, even if the criminal does not realize the full extent of his motivations or fails to see the reasons behind the stress he feels. A clear example of this can be seen upon the questioning of Berkowitz who denied he had anything against women, nor did he have reason as to why he killed so many. In actual fact, his mother’s rejection was the stresser that ultimately turned him violent. He did not attack his mother directly (few serial killers ever attack the source of their resentment), but the majority of his killings were based on women who had a likeness to his mother.
The young student turned killer at Virginia Tech was obviously having trouble at home, at school and in his personal life and felt as though he could not trust anyone! He felt that he was betrayed, sexually abused or mistreated at home and his problems, starting at home, carried over into every other part of his life. The teacher failed to see that this was a young man in terrible pain and in need of help. His writings, which were also very violent and depict someone stealing the life out of someone else, as the killer felt that someone was stealing his life from him!
Chris Davids, a Virginia Tech student who graduated from Westfield High School in Chantilly, Virginia , with Cho in 2003, recalled that the South Korean immigrant, who portrayed himself as persecuted, ostracized and ranted about harassment by rich kids in a chilling video first broadcast Wednesday night, almost never opened his mouth and would ignore attempts to strike up a conversation. Definitely the sign of his feeling overwhelmed.
Once, in English class, the teacher had the students read aloud and, when it was Cho's turn, he just looked down in silence, Davids recalled. Finally, after the teacher threatened him to give him a failing grade, Cho started to read in a strange, deep voice that sounded "like he had something in his mouth," Davids said. Being different should not be punishable.
"As soon as he started reading, the whole class started laughing and pointing and saying, `Go back to China,"' Davids said. This is obviously harassment and teachers should not allow such behavior to take place by anyone. No one should be disrespecting anyone else in class!
Cho shot 32 people to death and committed suicide in the deadliest one-man shooting rampage in modern U.S. history. This story is heart breaking.
"Your Mercedes wasn't enough, you brats," Cho, who came to the U.S. in 1992, said. "Your golden necklaces weren't enough, you snobs. Your trust funds wasn't enough. Your vodka and cognac wasn't enough. All your debaucheries weren't enough. Those weren't enough to fulfill your hedonistic needs. You had everything." It seems as though childish behavior and kids are running our schools and not the administrators or the teachers! That can't be tolerated. There should be zero tolerance for any type of bullying by anyone. Schools must find ways to maintain safety for everyone and the media and the schools are not taking responsibility ... until it happens again!
I sense pain in his eyes and a deep hurt in his heart, something that made him not want to live anymore.
HE FELT VIOLATED AND HE FELT THAT "THEY" HAD DRAWN, FIRST BLOOD! HE FELT HE HAD NO RECOURSE BUT "FIGHT BACK". SO SAD, IT COULD NOT HAVE BEEN RESOLVED DIFFERENTLY.
HE FELT THE RICH WERE GIVEN SPECIAL PRIVILEGES ... THEY OFTEN ARE ... HE FELT HURT BY THEM ... KIDS DO FIGHT AND HARASS OTHERS ... THEY PROBABLY DID FIGHT WITH HIM AND DO SOMETHING TO HIM.
PERHAPS ALL SCHOOLS SHOULD HAVE A ZERO TOLERANCE FOR BULLYING AND HARASSMENT? SOMETHING NEEDS TO CHANGE ... SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE TO TRY TO PREVENT THESE THINGS FROM HAPPENING! I AM A STRONG BELIEVER IN PREVENTION. IT CAN BE PREVENTED AND IT SHOULD BE PREVENTED.
THE TEACHERS SHOULD HAVE RECOGNIZED THERE WAS A PROBLEM AND THEY SHOULD HAVE TRIED TO DO SOMETHING ... THEY CHOSE TO DO NOTHING! JUST LIKE AT COLUMBINE, THE TEACHERS FAILED TO ACT TO TRY TO DEAL WITH AN EXPLOSIVE SITUATION! SOMETHING MUST CHANGE IN HOW TEACHERS RECOGNIZE AND DEAL WITH THESE TYPES OF PROBLEMS AT SCHOOL!
Innocence lost or stolen. Betrayed trust. Broken dreams. Sadness, depression. This situation could have been resolved!
He had a handgun like this. No waiting period. It was too easy to get. No civilian should have access to weapons of mass destruction!
As Jack Apsche (1993) makes clear, serial murderers want to see themselves as dominant, controlling and powerful figures. They want to hold the power of life and death, and in their own eyes, they perceive themselves as God. In their fantasies and their enactment of the murder, they become God. This is actually probably the only power they have ever had, and for this reason they savor and continue to persist. The young student killer at Virginia Tech feeling wronged for so long, took the power of God, life and death, over his victims and took the power in death that he felt he did not have in life. The young killer after turning his gun on his classmates then turned the gun on himself, this indicates to me a great deal of self loathing and self hatred. He wanted to escape his being, the skin he was in, his life that he felt was a trap of oppression.
Ultimately, it is often said by most professionals that it is virtually impossible to detect a serial killer. However, I greatly disagree. While many seem to be quiet normal in their everyday lives, only some actually tend to act differently to the general population. Many have stated that it is easy to fool society, especially psychiatrists, by simply stating what they want to hear. Nor is there any way of detecting for certain who might become a homicidal maniac. However, I, as a psychic see it differently. There is a hostility, a hatred of people and life from potential serial killers that is not a frustrated person's normal rant!
What Makes A Killer - A Psychic Perception
The killer or victim will have the letter m or n somewhere in their name often but this is not always the case.
The killer will have experience with killing, real or imagined.
Disassociation from family members and the family unit.
A strong feeling of being mistreated, misunderstood or harassed. It's not to say they were not bullied or harassed in some way, they probably were.
Abuse of alcohol or drugs in the home or by the killer.
Sadistic in nature, abusive or hostile, tempermental, argumentative, combative.
Shows signs of childhood trauma.
Extremely possessive of their privacy, space or possessions.
Killer will eventually begin to show signs of strength or power: controlling, dominating or abusing another will make them feel powerful.
Training in and use of bombs, fire arms, weapons of mass destruction or physical combative training or malicious fighting.
Threats and acts of intimidation or promise to harm or kill another.
Killer will suffer depression or be delusional.
The line is drawn where rational people can deal with their frustrations within society, but potential killers feel that their is no hope and the only answer is to obliterate those they feel are holding them back or keeping them down.
Professionals by comparing many past cases say it is possible to put together a list of general personality traits that are common in serial killers, and that may prove useful in determining future killers. However, what good is it to put together a list if it will never be used to prevent criminal acts or intervening in some way.
Freud once commented, a child would destroy the world if it had the power. In a sense the serial killer’s mind can be contrasted to that of a child’s for it has not had the opportunity to develop to that of a ‘normal’ adult. Instead, fantasy takes the place of reality, and it is almost always solely based on acquiring power. A majority of serial killings might have been avoided if the killers had been better treated in their youth.
America must learn to recognize, treat, counsel and help the "lost" in society who feel they have no where to turn because eventually ... they always end up turning ... on society! As a psychic, I see a school being bombed. I see more work place violence. I see more crime in America.
America must take control of it's lapse gun laws and strive to execute a just and fair government where no one is a lost cause, where no child is left behind.
