Dear Crystal: I Just Lost My Job ... Now What?
You've known for months that it has been coming, but you cling to the hope that it won't happen to you. After all, you have been with the company for many years. People often feel when something is about to happen to them. You tried to make yourself valuable to your company yet you feel a sense of fear or doom. (This was partly referenced from: computorcompanion.com/LPMArticle.asp?ID=152.
The company has been having trouble in this strange economy. It's like a dominoe effect. All the dominoes fall down. First the credit company no longer wants to lend credit for fear they won't get their money back. Then the banks don't want to lend money. The growth in the economy stops or slows down because people are not purchasing. When you try to build a successful economy off borrowed money ... these things happen. Fair regulations and affordable housing can produce positive results without driving the public into debt. We all fall down in an economic system that is built on the idea of credit and captialism.
You may not have lost your job yet, denial is the first stage of having to start over; of having to go through the agonizing process of finding a new job. The questions pound through your head: "How long will it take? Will I have to move? Do I have enough saved to survive a long job search? Will I like my new job? Will I get my unemployment?"
Suffering the loss of a job can be an emotionally wrenching experience. Regardless of the reason, it is usually difficult to understand. Extensive research has demonstrated a consistent pattern that is exhibited in the following:
Emotional stages of a job loss can begin with your having bad dreams and falling into a sense of denial about your circumstances. I can't believe this is happening to me, often people may say. It leads to depression, anger, being supercritical, withdrawing from friends and family at times or a loved one, brooding and reflecting over ones life.
Well known companies are failing left and right and letting people go. My income has fallen as well. I know it can be terrifying, I've been through it myself. Until recently, job layoffs were something we read about, but most of us felt it could never happen to us. If you don't lose your job, you may still suffer from a slow economy by making less money. Now that the unthinkable has happened, what should you do?

Believe that there is a loving caring Spirit that rules heaven and earth and this Spirit has helped you before when you were in a dire and desperate situation and like a loving, kind mother, it will help you again. It will send a life raft and guide you gently to a safe and harboring shore. You must believe in a power that is greater than yourself and greater than any evil you may encounter. Once you know that you are tied to a protective and loving Spirit, you will know that it is always going to seek to protect you and keep you safe because you also live in love. The Spirit is love. Those who live in love, also live in the Spirit of love. This powerful Spirit will see you like a loving mother caring for it's child.
The initial shock of losing a job can be tremendous. New ideas will come and you may try this or that. You may decide to improve your education or change careers. You will adjust and change and you will thrive and grow. You will learn. The Spirit will teach you and guide you. If you don't believe in yourself, nobody will. Moreso than believing in yourself, believe in a loving God-like Spirit that will help you. In this economy, even the best of the best are not immune to layoffs, so don't take your situation personally. I have found that people can have what they think they can have. If you think you can do well, you can. If you believe you can do well in certain industries and areas of interest, your probably right. If something is going to work for you ... it will just work ... so try different things and see what works out for you and what feels good to you.
My father was a carpenter and he went back to school and became a mechanic. I never saw him so happy as when he was working in the back yard fixing the neighbor's cars. One day he was walking through the house and counting the money from working on cars ... it was a huge wad of bills ... he was smiling and counting his cash ... I've never seen him so happy in any other profession. He was smiling ... he was very happy.

One of the few fields that is growing and expanding is the medical field, you could become a home health aide and it won't take a took long to get trained. Or you could train for any number of jobs in the medical field that could be growing in the future. What feels good and right to you?

Being laid off makes you feel like the sky is falling in on you. This is why it's so important to think about our neighbors and demand that our government help the greatest and smallest of us. The government is suppose to build a stable economy out of it's wealth ... not on a credit basis. As the economy goes ... so does it's citizens. Then the citizens can also build debt free lives.
Take Time Off!
Take a day or two off. You need to find your center. Your peace of mind. There are many inexpensive things you can do to temporarily take your mind off of your troubles. You can walk in the park or work in the garden. The job hunt will require you to be at your peak performance and by taking some time off you will put yourself in a better position to recognize opportunities and be willing to try new things. Rest, watch a funny movie and laugh, shake off your fear and prepare to transition yourself. Remind yourself, your protective and forgiving and loving Spirit will help you find a place to work and be happy and prosper. Look at your health. Can you stand a long time? Does sitting a long time bother you? Do you have health limitations? You can work around your limitations. You still have a good mind. Do what you can do and do what you enjoy. Some people have started a small business from their kitchen table, full time and part time, you could do the same. What are your hobbies and talents? Write them down. What makes you smile?

These people are holding pink slips because they are protesting lay offs. They are speculating that unemployment could hit 9% nationally. I predict that the dominoe effect could have unemployment hitting about 12% or higher at its peak.
You can go to a museum or the zoo. You can go for a long bike ride or a walk. You can go fishing, play pool, swim or go for a massage. Watch a funny movie and laugh as hard as you can. You can even go to a retirement community or a hospital to brighten up someone's day and take them flowers from your garden or fresh vegetables. Doing charity work will put your situation into perspective that life can be worse. The idea is for you to relax and take your mind off of your situation so that you will be refreshed for your job-hunting journey or ways to restructure your life to create your own income.
Learn from Your Experience
After your short time off, get a note pad and a pen. Write down your learning experiences from your past jobs. Where did you excel? How could you have improved your performance? What did you enjoy about your previous jobs? What would you like to avoid in future jobs? The key is to learn from the experiences of your work history. That way you turn a negative event into something positive.
Next, write down your greatest strengths. This could be anything from your ability to communicate to the fact that you are a hard-worker. Maybe you are a great cost-cutter or you have a unique ability to motivate others. Whatever your strengths are, write them down.

Pink Slipped? Get some rest! Rest your sweet little soul!
Determine Your Ideal Job
Then, on a fresh sheet of paper write down the traits and characteristics that would make up your ideal job. Maybe you want a job where you can work out of the home. Perhaps you want a job working for a small entrepreneurial company. Maybe you even want to change careers. Can you do child care from home? Perhaps you would like to train in the medical field and become a home health aide? You still possess the skills that got you a job and you can use those skills right from home as a consultant. Let yourself dream ... what feels good to you. Did you dream of being an astronaut at one time. When I was a little girl I pretended that I could type. I would get my mom's old typewriter and would just go to town typing long lines of jibberish because I was too young to know how to read or spell but I was typing. Later, I told myself, I owned a business and the name of my business was a famous publishing company. It was my publishing company. Did you use to pretend to play cowboys and indians? Perhaps opening your own detective or research agency is in your future. Here's the strange part ... the angels reveals wisdom to children that we often forget when we are older. What did you like to do when you were a child? Did you play dress up? Perhaps a career in fashion may be calling you now.
Even if it seems fanatical, ideas as a child often reflect destinies as an adult. I use to like to pretend to be a bird and pretend to fly. We were all meant to soar in our lives to some level of success or achievenment. Don't play off your childhood ideas as flighty.
Once completed, compare your strengths to your ideal job characteristics. Identify those positions that fit your talents best, yet allow you to do what you enjoy. Write down all the possibilities you can think of. You now have your target market (list) of opportunities. Look at your abilities and disabilities and plan for something you can do ... use your mind. Let your heart guide you to possibilities that you may have overlooked in the job market.

Job-hunting is like a trip. Before getting in a car, you first pick out your destination and then decide on the best route to get there. With your target list of opportunities you have identified your destination. And, as a result of your short vacation, you have a full tank of gas. Now, plan how you can best get to your destination ... an ideal job. Your friends, family, ex-coworkers, ex-customers, stock brokers, doctors along with the Internet, recruiters, newspapers, and industry events will all be possible routes you can take. You may never know what may take you to a point of happiness. Trust your intuition. If it feels positive ... why not try it.
A lot of people have started a business from home. If you decide to try to start a small business or consulting agency from home. It is important to realize that you must know affordable advertising. There are only a few ways to advertise that is affordable. Advertising in free magazines and free newspapers is one way of affordable advertising. Advertising basics, advertising 101 ... building a customer base. I like discussing things like this, a good customer is worth their weight in gold. The internet is information central, develop a web presence and along with it ... search engines. Try to put yourself in some of the top and best search engines but don't neglect the specialty search engines ... try to put your business in as many search engines as possible. Don't overwhelm the search engines only a few times a month submit your information. Flyers and business cards are also inexpensive forms of advertising.
Go Online
One of the best and fastest growing methods of finding a job is the Internet. Most companies now post open positions through online job portals as well as their own web sites. Companies will often post opportunities in a section of their web site called "employment opportunities."

You are a great individual and you deserve the best. By following some of these simple steps you can find yourself happier and more successful. Storms come up in life and being unemployed is a storm that you can survive. The angels have a plan to help you because they know you try to be a good person and sometimes you are a good person and sometimes you just keep trying to be a good person. It is who you are.

Unemployment And The Great Depression
In the United States, the percentage of the population that was out of work rose to 25 percent of the workforce at its highest level during the great depression. This number translated to 15 million Americans being without work. Canadian unemployment rates were even higher, with 30 percent of the population without jobs. Other countries, such as England, also went through a difficult decade. I always say, we all suffer together and in helping my neighbor, I help myself. So, I want laws to protect people from losing their homes. I want laws to protect people so they can afford to get fresh fruits and vegetables and stay healthy. I want affordable or free health care for the community so most people have a fair chance to stay educated, informed and healthy. I want it for you and I want it for me.
LAYOFF HORROR STORIES
(Lay Off Horror Stories Referenced from: http://gawker.com/tag/layoff-horror-stories/)
Bosses can be cruel when it comes to laying people off and they can lay you off whenever they want ... even the week of Christmas or any holidays. It would be nice if we could create laws to make employors respect their employees and pay them well. We should all understand that divided we all fall ... however if we work together and create fair laws, healthcare, housing and make our government and businesses treat everyone right ... we have a better chance of being happier for ourselves ... we really are all connected.

Don't bother showing me the door ... I passed it as I came in.
