Poerth is the rune for the letter 'P' and known as the rune of chance. It is frequently described as representing a dice cup, as such it is known as the rune of gambling. Some within the academic community have argued that it possibly could be a representation of a pear tree also. These meanings are all potentially valid because there is no definitive answer for this rune's divination meaning from ancient times. The attributing of chance and gambling to this rune is a modern interpretation; the earliest interpretation of this rune in this fashion that I have been able to find in my research dates to the early - mid. 1950s.
Generally, the divinatory meaning that is agreed upon by a large number of rune oracles is a nod to the fact that it is very,
very difficult to track down the 'original' meaning. This meaning is, quite simply, the Unknown. Poerth is ascribed associations with many different Tarot cards by many different oracles and psychics. Frequently, it has presented itself to me with the following associations:
- The Hanged Man
- Death
- The World
- The Wheel of Fortune
Most frequently, this rune presents itself as the Wheel of Fortune or the Hanged Man in the context of a rune reading involving more then a single rune. When it appears with the auspices and air of the Hanged Man, as it does today, it indicates the process of waiting to learn what is coming to you from the Unknown. It is a call to patience and practical caution. It is also a warning that things are not as they seem.
The easiest way to summarize the message of today's rune is with an old phrase that may be familiar to many of you:
Check the depth of the water before you dive in to it.I hope that you all have a lovely day. Feel free to call me. My status may fluctuate some from
Yes - Taking Calls to
Alert Me of Calls as I am attending to various tasks around home. I will set my status to
Arrange Calls With Me if I am unavailable for a period of time greater then a half hour.
