the strength of trees
I never saw a discontented tree. They grip the ground as though they liked it, and though fast rooted they travel about as far as we do. They go wandering forth in all directions with every wind, going and coming like ourselves, traveling with us around the sun two million miles a day, and through space heaven knows how fast and far! ~John Muir I’ve always been drawn to trees. When I drag out my pastels, or watercolors , there is always a tree somewhere in the scene that spirit gives me to paint. Today as we walked in the cool crisp fall air, watching the leaves float dreamily to the ground as our strong trees clear the old, so that strength is regained during their time of rest. We stopped by the old, gnarled redwood. I put both hands on his trunk, feeling his strength, his being rooted so strongly. I was so sure that last year when the tornado took old apple tree right up out of the ground we would lose Bro Redbud as well. The bottom of his trunk has been rooted out by time, yet new growth is there as he has changed his pattern of growth to adjust to the problems. It reminds us to be like the trees during the storms. Grab on to the earth, root ourselves into the problem , growing in, around it , adjusting to be able to stand strong, stand up facing the winds, that try to bring us down. During the winter trees , like bears, snakes, other living things, hibernate, rest. We often think that if NOTHING is happening that spirit isn’tworking, yet as we see the tree, not getting completely different, but letting new growth come to the situation , it has happened from the time of being quiet, still, resting in the faith that once again the beauty will return. Tree magick: As I looked for the magickal properties for the redbud tree I found that it is related to peas, legumes. It is odd because it does have blooms in the spring but no fruit. This tells us that redbud is great for serenity, peace, for allowing new growth, happiness to come into our lives. I am here this am and this evening as usual. I will be answering all emails, readings, during the day. I look forward to each call. May the fairies dance around us as our trees grow tall in our inner spirits. Talk soon. Love ya, Me, Bob, Bets, T
