A Metaphysician Looks At Modern Religion
The practical definition of 'metaphysics' is the exploration of Reality and how such knowledge may benefit human life here on Earth, both individually and collectively. Metaphysics, then, is a spiritual philosophy and a Metaphysician is a practitioner of such spiritual philosophy.
Metaphysics today has become a description for many fields of interest, which may include one or any combination of Philosophy, Religion, Parapsychology, Mysticism, Yoga, ESP, Dream Interpretation and Study, Jungian Psychology, Astrology, Meditation/Contemplation, Self-help Studies, Positive Thinking, Life After Death, Reincarnation, Empathic Healing Arts, Energy Work, Light Work, Holistic and Alternative Medicine, Paranormal Investigations, UFO's, Extraterrestrials and Psychic Studies.
The basic denominator here is the search for truth, purpose and meaning in life relating to the quintessential questions -- " Who am I, What Am I, Why Am I , Where Have I been, Where Am I Going ...?" Humankind is the inherent seeker.
Modern religion is based on faith without scientific backing for its basic belief structure. We are being asked to simply accept and not question -- and this 'keep quiet' attitude flies in the face of an analytical, inquisitive mindset as presented through metaphysics. We have questions, we seek answers -- beyond what is momentarily fed to us
This is not to say that today's modern religions are outdated, although some may still hold on to older tried and true methods of control .. and quite honestly there are still those of us who may need and accept this type of control. What I am proposing is that Spirituality is of itself a viable path encompassing All That Is and the Divine One True Creative Source, also popularly known today simply as GOD.
In Metaphysics God is perceived as the Universal Consciousness that IS All That Is and that we -- human, animal, insect, mineral - alike - all share equally. We may refer to All That Is by any name, and use any method of connection that works for us ... All IT wants is for us to connect with IT.
Modern religion teaches that Man is made in the likeness of God. Metaphysics teaches that ALL is made in the likeness of the Creator and that likeness is Soul, our inner body, not our physical outer body. Soul inhabits everything - it is not only relegated to human form, it is within every atom, every neuron, every nanoparticle. ALL encompasses ALL.
Metaphysics teaches that what is old, is now new. The New Thought that we accept as New Age Thinking is actually ancient wisdom. Mind healing, energy healing, crystal wisdom, sacred geometry -- forms of what is today considered New Thought have been studied and practiced for eons by preceding civilizations for thousands, albeit millions of years - all having the same access to the Universal Life Force that we do today.
Modern Religion ? Perhaps an oxymoron.
