Cats, Coyotes and Karma
Greetings dear friends .... today is not such a good day for Dolphyn and I apologize if I have been more absent than visible here on Keen.
My heart is very heavy with the disappearance of my darlin kitty, Alice. Those of you who know me know that I have nurtured Alice through some very difficult times as a kitten, nursing her back to health with love and care. She is a wonderful kitty friend and has thrived with the care she has been given by our local vets.
Three days ago she failed to come home from a hunting jaunt. This is not the first of our cats to disappear in this manner, and I am besides myself with grief as to what fate may have befallen her.
My trip today to the Humane Society in town was fruitless in regards to Alice .. she was not there. However, the very kindly gentleman who runs the new shelter gave me some information that I have feared for a long time. Our county is overrun with coyotes.
It seems that the construction of new developments in and around the county have disturbed the coyotes natural habitat and they are moving closer and closer in toward the inhabited areas. We live on a dead end that backs to land leasees that go for miles and miles along the intercoastal canal and felt quite safe, until they removed most of the homes on our side of the road to build a new development. The development in is litigation over water rights and hence has become a 12 acre field of weeds and tall brush .. exactly the type of habitat that coyotes seek.
I don't know how to combat coyotes, they are tricky, small and run in packs If anyone has ideas, I am certainly open to them. Any help would of course be most appreciated.
Thank you all for listening and understanding.
With much love always
Dolphyn
