THE METAPHYSICAL EDGE

The Metaphysical Edge ... Where All Realities Meet

SUNDAY SERMON: Synchronicity

Today, I’d like to talk about the term “Synchronicity,” what it means in general, what it means to us and how we can apply its lessons to our lives.

The American Heritage Dictionary defines “synchronicty” as “…Coincidence of events that seem to be meaningfully related, conceived in Jungian theory as explanatory principle on the same order as causality.”

Basically .. this is telling us that when things are “in sync” or synchronous, they are inter-related and occur for a purpose along the lines of an experience being meant to be, or at the very least, for the good of the whole.

“Every musician who participated was on the same wavelength and artistic energy as I was... Supernatural is a beautiful example of synchronicity... making it was a truly glorious experience.”
Carlos Santana

I’ve recently returned from an absolutely incredible trip where synchronicity appeared to be one of the main lessons. This synchronous feeling continued to occur almost moment-to-moment from the time I left my home in Florida til the time I set foot on the plane in Portland, OR for the return home two weeks later. I believe the reason for this synchronicity is because what I was doing was something that was good for the whole, and I was in tune to the direction of the Higher Self.

“I am open to the guidance of synchronicity, and do not let expectations
hinder my path.”

Dalai Lama

The word ‘synchronicity’ was itself coined by metaphysical existentialist, Carl Jung, who believed that meaningful coincidences were a dynamic underlay of the entire human experience; that history itself, as well as social, emotional, psychological and spiritual events were and are all manifestations of a pattern of connectivity that is not explained by causality -- basically, which boils down to there is no such thing as ‘chance’ and everything has purpose.

“The connection between cause and effect turns out to be only statistically valid and only relatively true. ... I define synchronicity as a psychically conditioned relativity of time and space.”
Carl Jung

So, today's message is that you try to be mindful during your day-to-day activities to look for synchronicity in your life.  Synchronicity is a method used by your Higher Self, your inner guides, if you wish, to show you that your path is correct and that your direction serves the higest good of all involved.  Using synchronicity as a guide will help you to overcome obstacles and to put you in a place of right-action.

Be blessed !
