Boundaries

How to keep healthy boundaries in your relationships

I would like to chime in on the question of per minute charges................

most people have strong feelings about how much per minute some readers charge..... now with the featured listings charges readers may feel the need to charge more because it costs them a lot to list in the first few positions..... but who ends up paying more? The CALLER who is looking for a reading ends up paying a lot per minute, and there is no need for it. Realistically speaking there is only so much that people can pay to have readings, and with the economy in somewhat of a recession, that may in fact be the first thing that people need to cut out...so charging exhorbatant fees may cause your call volume to drop dramatically, do we really NEED to charge that much? Maybe it's just me, but I feel that many readers are charging way too highly for consultations....

However IF you are a good reader, you should not need to list your self up high in the listings so there is no need to pay to list in the first few readers, hence no need to charge so much, the people you need to be reading for WILL find you...they will scroll down THROUGH all of those readers charging 25.99 a minute, 13.99 per minuts etc.....

Maybe it's just me, but people do deserve a good quality, honest, ethical, and fairly priced reading at a fair price....... and anything over 4.99 per minute is quite a high price to pay for that..... that is of course just MY opinion.......

Honestly, whatever anyone wants to charge really doesn't bother me -- it doesn't affect me in the least.  The point is that you won't get your maximum dollars if you charge too much.  Some of the readers I call, who charge less than $2.99, have a queue of a couple of hours long sometimes just to get your reading.  And ya know what?  Their callers don't mind waiting.  We know we are getting a great product for a great price, and THEY are the ones making the money here on Keen.

Oh, by the way, I meant to start that off with, "I have always respected your views and your blogs and this one is no different. "

I do not think that is is necessary for ANYONE to charge 25.99 a min and so many readers are charging way too much for a reading, no pearls of wisdom are worth that much, how much is that per minute? That is how I see it....

I wouldn't even consider paying $25.99.  I like to click those tho :D so I can see what on earth is worth $25.99.

speaking only for myself as a caller, I nver look at the featured listings. I'm not real crazy about the ones that show up on my account page either. It's not offensive to me it's just distracting. I look at ratings and feedback. next I look at how often a reader is available, every day? most days? a few calls a month. Lastly I look at how long a reader has been with keen. A balance of all these things are important. Now I can get a feel for readers through their blogs and that's great.
I have a ? about clicking on listings. do readers get charged for each click? How can I be more conserate of of readers and still do some research?

Readers do get charged when they show up on featured listings, and then they only get charged ONLY how much THEY have chosen to pay per click... but if you look, you can see that you can look at the listings from the drop down menu, featured listings, top available, highest rating, under $3 and under $2 per minute. All of those listings for readers are free to the reader if you click on ANY of the other drop down menu options, so top available, highest rating, under $3 and under $2 are free to click on, just NOT the featured listings. There was a time on keen you had to EARN your place or position in the listing by your rating number and then featured listings was created so readers who had only created their listings, could compete with readers who had worked and earned their living on keen for years.

Dear Joan:
You know this is a matter of choice and really it is like trying to tell someone that an item in a store is too high and you will not buy it.  I agree with everyone that those that charge a very high price must be very confident and do not want a large client load.  I for one am surprised how many calls I do get and I have to measure my time on Keen because I have a private practice also.  I just am comfortable with what I get now and do not feel the need to raise my price because for one thing I do not bid for featured listings like the majority of advisors do.  I get my clients from word of mouth and many have followed me from another website where I worked before and my private practice also.  Having said all that I think however it is their right to set their price at any level they feel they are comfortable with and it the clients right to not call them because it is too expensive for them.  That is the way it should be.  Choices for both the callers and the Advisors and we should respect each others choices and not bash those that don't feel the same.

On a general level I do not judge others for what they charge, but I do think that 25.99 is way too much and I would NEVER pay that or charge that or even 25% of that ridiculous price and they better be giving me lottery numbers for that amount per minute....:-)
I am not scared of charging too much, I know that I am an honorable person and do not want to overcharge for the service that I do offer, people deserve to be able to afford a reasonable amount of time to have their concerns addressed in a timely, honest and accurate manner and most normal people do not have $250 to spend on a ten minute reading....
However, If that is what some readers feel they are worth, who am I to judge them for that? It is not my place, I would just never dream or even think of charging that much or even close to it.

omg does this person have NO shame? I am sorry but as an honest, ethical reader who knows how easy it is to spend too much money simply because you do not *FEEL* as if you are spending and the tally does not come in until the end of the month, THEN you see how much 25.99 a minute readings can cost. Yes the people who call are responsible for clicking that call now button BUT if they did not, would we be able to make our living ? It is a fine line in my humble opinion.  We, as readers may want to make our living doing what we love and are good at, need to know that there is a big difference between being able to make a living on keen which we are blessed to be able to do and being what I consider a little greedy not to mention giving those of us who are reasonable a bad name and reputation of bilking callers out of thousands. Readers have a duty to change that when we are honest and ethical but cannot as long as the ones who charge WAYYYY too much continue doing so. This like I said is MY opinion only

The problem here, that will cause Keen to collapse in on itself, is that Keen is JUST A PLATFORM TO RUN A BUSINESS THROUGH!  It is none of your business as an advisor to comment on what any advisor sees fit to charge, it is how each individual sees fit to run their business.  Forums and blogs are destroying the privacy and the independent enterprise on keen.  If someone wants to charge .27 (the minimum to cover the connection) per minute, or $1000 per minute, it's none of your business!!  Play in your own backyard!  How Advisor A runs their Business is none of Advisor B's business.  Clients have a choice and will choose who they prefer at the price they prefer, it is not open to discussion!

I beg to differ, it IS none of YOUR business what I choose to comment on in MY blog, and if you do not care for my opinions then do not read what I have to say. As a LONG time Advisor on keen, I am perfectly aware that keen is just a platform that is NOT news to me, and if you are of the opinion that blogs are destroying keen then complain to keen, not me. I also think that you may in fact be an advisor posting under another name that charges a lot per minute that does not like being challanged on that. Charging too much will give readers a BAD reputation and will lead less calls to come through which will hurt everyone in the long term, that is my opinion and I am entitled to share it whether YOU like it or not..... I did not mention names, I did not call out anyone in particular, why ever does what I have to say bother YOU so much? I care about the BIG picture and the effect of the higher prices will have on the perception of readers by potential clients, you apparently do NOT.  Have a nice day... :-)
