Boundaries

How to keep healthy boundaries in your relationships

This was sent to me........
GIRLS IN MY CIRCLE

When I was little, I used to believe in the concept
Of one best friend,
And then I started to become a woman.

And then I found out that if you allow your heart to
Open up, God would
Show you the best in many friends.

One friend is needed when you're going through
Things with your man.
Another friend is needed when you're going through
Things with your mom.

Another will sit beside you in the bleachers as you
Delight in your
Children and their activities. Another when you want
To shop, share,
Heal, hurt, joke, or just be.

One friend will say, "Let's cry together," another,
"Let's fight
Together, "another, "Let's walk away together."

One friend will meet your spiritual needs, another
Your shoe fetish,
Another your love for movies, another will be with
You in your season of
Confusion, another will be your clarifier, another
The wind beneath your
Wings.

But whatever their assignment in your life, on
Whatever the occasion, on
Whatever the day, or wherever you need them to meet
You with their gym
Shoes on and hair pulled back, or to hold you back
From making a
Complete fool of yourself. . .those are your best
Friends.

It may all be wrapped up in one woman, but for many,
it's wrapped up in
Several..

One from 7th grade,
One from high school,
Several from the college years,
A couple from old jobs,
On some days your mother,
On some days your neighbor,
On others, your sisters,
And on some days, your daughters.

So whether they've been your friend for 20 minutes
Or 20 years, AND ONLY
IF YOU'D LIKE TO, pass this on to the women that God
Has placed in your
Life to make a difference.

It is far easier to leave angry words unspoken than
to mend the heart those words have broken.

Actually it is interesting that our friendships change over time when our own lives change, they change to reflect that. When we are single, we do not want to talk about how cute our friends babies are all day etc... we have friends that are based upon  the times of our lives we are experiencing.
I find that I have cut a lot of people out of my life that I find no longer things in common with. I will not tolerate people who do not reflect my values and or try to push their views onto me in any way, that will not work for me any more.

I agree 100% with your blog. I was just having a recent conversation with someone about friends who come into my life to get their wings mended only to move. I have come to accept it as nature and cycles and do not hesitate to help a friend when they are in need full well knowing that the will graduate and move on with life without me.

I have had people in my path who have mended my wing(s) when sprained or broken and I have been the one who has graduated and moved on. So, that is really why I do not take it to heart or personal when this happens to me.

Not everyone is intended to remain in our lives playing specific friendship roles. And sometimes the friendship roles remain but they just change in capacity and types.

You are so right seeking, we learn so much from others and when we can learn not to take what happens personally, and see the friendship from what we gained from it as opposed to being negative about it, we are well on our way to gaining more friends.

The thing about friends is that you have to value them and make sure they value your friendship, it has to be reciprocal. You have to value yourself and make sure that someone treats your friendship with respect and only you can do that in relationships, and friendships...
