Boundaries

How to keep healthy boundaries in your relationships

Tv Advertising.....

Watching Today or listening to it while I prepare lunches and breakfast and a Walmart Advertisement for Christmas toys and how CHEAP they are. One girl wants an ipod and HEY PRESTO it's cheaper at Walmart, and her MOM is talking about buying her the ipod and the other advertisement is for twins and they want Action Figures......and they are ALSO cheaper at Walmart and the MOM buys the gifts and announces that she did and how happy she was to have saved on her xmas gifts and how the kids loved them and while that is WONDERFUL, how about the kids watching who Still believe? Where is SANTA in this WALMART=CHEAPER toy prices???

No ROOM FOR SANTA IN WALMART WORLD? Is it just me? That was the first thought I had when I saw that advertisement...

Joan,

While watching the Grinch the other night with my 3 children, we saw that commercial. I am glad my children are older...that's for sure!  We believe Santa Claus/Father Christmas, is about the "spirit" of Christmas, giving, bringing joy to others, faith & hope.

Every aspect of our childrens lives are bombarded with messages to force them to grow up so much sooner than they need to from clothing and peer pressure, now they wanna take santa away too?
I have a six year old neice called Aoife and in her kindergardten class one of the children informed her that there was NO santa, and she asked her mother, the mother addressed it to the teacher who had a word with the mother of the child in question, she informed her that while SHE may not want her child to believe in santa she had NO right to take that from the other kids.
They don't believe for long, why steal it from them?

If there is no Santa than who has been eating the mince pies? that's what I want to know.  It is simply the true meaning of Christmas has been long forgotten and bringing joy to people is now measured in how big the gift is rather than the spirit the giving was done in, if that makes sense.

The holiday season was taken over by commerce and now...it is stressful for so many. Never mind the debt people go into.I heard the other day that the amount of debt incurred during this holiday season is equal to $900 for every man, woman & child in the USA!
Trinity...I'm with you...Santa always eats the cookies and these past few years, he enjoys a can of coke instead of milk. The can is portable ;)
Happy Stress & Debt free holidays to all :)

I have to admit, that my daughter now 19 years old usually spends Christmas day with her Father and his new family.  So I don't do Christmas, as for presents there is only my daughter to buy for, so these days we wait until the January sales are underway and have a girly day out in town coming home loaded with bags of shopping and spend the evening running up and down stairs parading our new outfits, it's great fun.

Even though my children are 14 and 11, Brian and Alison spend alternate xmas's with my ex and I. This year it is my turn, I went to his home to open the gifts last year and even now when the kids do not believe, we still drive over an hour and arrive at the house of the other at 7am xmas morning. Hard work but when you have children, you have to love your children a little more than you dislike your ex. A simple equation but it has worked for me.

Yep Sarah's father and I used to do the same until the "new wife" came along and it was then vetoed, I'm just glad she appeared when Sarah was in her late teens otherwise I might have had to stick a mince pie somewhere Santa wouldn't want to have it from.  hehe

I am so glad my children still believe in the "spirit" of Santa Claus.  We were talking about this last week with our "baby" who is a grown women and she said she never stopped believing in the magic of Christmas and could not believe that some do not teach their children the love that goes along with that belief.  I remember when it was fun to go shopping at Christmas and see Santa and the elves but also all the religious decorations like the Crech and the Menorah that was also displayed.  Now it is just not the same and I think we the less because of it.

Rosie,

My family "BELIEVES"~ My children actually gave their Aunt an awesome response when she came out & said there is no santa claus, kids are taught a lie and then grow to distrust. My children shook their heads and said, Santa Claus is the "spirit" of Christmas, he's not a lie. I turned to my 14 year old who spoke up and said...see you thought A Christmas Carol was made up didn't you ;) There are a lot of Bah Humbugs in the world. This conversation took place on Thanksgiving during dinner.
I told my children it's sad to me that people have such closed minds, hearts & spirits. For those are the true source of their unhappiness :)
