Ask A Witch: Pagan Counselor in London, England

Dear Alexandra,

Are you a Pagan who is a counselor (rather than a pagan counselor)? How do you keep the boundaries when working with non-pagans (if you do)?  I am a counselor who is pagan and am trying to work out how to let my religious beliefs sustain me and be able to work with clients of any denomination, whilst integrating my beliefs. I have made some tentative steps so far. How directive/interventionist do you think it is appropriate to be? Looking forward to your thoughts.

Blessed Be,

Pagan Counselor in London, England

__________

Dear PC,

Yes, I am also a registered counselor for people of many denominations and beliefs. Though I consider myself devout, I have very strong feelings towards keeping that life separate from my job.  While a friend or family member in crisis might benefit from it being explained that the Gods and Goddesses care, a paying client seeking professional help will have different expectations and rights. If you are a proud Pagan and your compassion is informed by your beliefs, you will show the strength of your life choices by your very nature and character. Unless by special request, since you are so comfortable sharing it, you need not let your own spiritual growth cause clients to call their own beliefs into question.

Light!
Alexandra
