Ask A Witch: Angie in Chicago, IL

Dear Alexandra...

Is the devil involved in any thing of the spells?

Angie in Chicago IL

__________

Dear Angie,

That is a paradoxical question to ask somebody who does not work within Christian mythology. Since I don't believe in devils, I'd have to say, no, the "devil" is not involved with Paganism. The devil is a Christian deity and there is no equivalent entity in the Pagan religion that I practice. However, if you were to ask somebody who did believe in devils, they might have another story, so please do.

Light!

Alexandra

That is the perfect reply!
Paganism does not have a devil or Satan; this is a Christian (Catholic-started) concept!  Even in the Old Testament there is no Satan but God's old pal, "The Adversary", who did God's bidding and "tested" mankind. The Adversary also was called upon to revenge wrongs done to innocents!
The Smithsonian magazine did a great article tracing the origin of Satan, which medieval Christians modeled on Cernunnos, a pagan god, in an attempt to vilify conflicting belief systems and make Catholicism Numero Uno.
