Ask A Witch: Confused in Ruskin, FL
Dear Alexandra,
A friend of mine claims to be Wiccan. She has been practicing for many years. She kind-of called a circle and I joined. I learned my colors and compass points, but that is all I have learned. How do I know if I am now a true Wiccan? Please help me to know and understand what I am doing. Should I find someone else to train me? I am so confused. Thank you taking the time to read this.

Dear Confused,
There are many different ideas of what it takes to be a "true" Wiccan. It all depends on what kind of Wiccan you desire to be. There are groups with strict training plans that may last over a year before one can be initiated. But, there are other groups in which traditional training and lineage of initiation are unimportant, and the point is just to worship with friends. This is why it is important to investigate your spirituality on your own, so that you can decide what you need, without a friend telling you what they think you need! Either way, if you are this confused, it sounds like you might want to hold off on your friend's "training" until things are clear. Regardless of her Wiccan qualifications, she is obviously a poor teacher.
