Ask A Witch: Family Entreating A Recovery in Renton, WA

Dear Alexandra,

My sister has been diagnosed with Panic Disorder with agoraphobia. She is terrified to go anywhere and at times can not come out of her bedroom because of crying. She is also terrified to take any medication prescribed for her. I would appreciate any advice to help her and hope you can pray for her.

Thanks,

Dear FEAR,

I'm sorry, that must be really difficult for your family. I will pray for you. To help her, you may need to explore the reason why she is afraid to take medication. Has she taken medication before? Under what circumstances? Does she have bad side-effects that she is avoiding? If she is afraid of all medications, a talk with her prescriber may help, especially as they may have other methods of delivery for extreme cases such as hers. Also, you may talk with the doctor about beginning a plan of aerobic exercise in her room. Often, exercise can help anxiety, because it brings the body action up in time with the unnaturally rapid heart rate!  Therapy that includes progressive exposures can be key to managing her illness.

Light!
Alexandra
