Ask A Witch: Half Remembered Whispers in London, England
Dear Alexandra,
I have been looking for a piece of text that I have heard, but I do not know what it is called. Part of it goes like this: "Black spirits and white, Red spirits and grey, hearken to the rune I say..." So, I would be so very grateful if you could help me discover the full text, and its title. It is driving me crazy, because I so want to add it to my "Opening Of The Temple" Thank you so very much for your time and trouble.
Half Remembered Whispers in London, England
__________
Dear HRW,
I know exactly what you are referring to because it was one of my all time favorite circle calls at one point in time! You are quoting the "Circle Conjuration" by Doreen Valiente. Though there are many variants, what I believe to be the full text follows:
Black spirits and white
Red spirits and gray
Harken to the rune I say.
Four points of the circle, weave the spell,
East, South, West, North, your tale to tell.
East is for red for the break of the day,
South is white for the noontide hour,
In the West is twilight gray,
And North is black for the place of power.
Three times round the circle's cast.
Great ones, spirits from the past,
Witness it and guard it fast.
Light!
Alexandra
