Ask A Witch: Harlow in Chicago, IL
Dear Alexandra,
As a Yule gift to a "once-born" close friend, he is giving me permission to perform a spell for him and create an amulet for him. He hasn't decided for what purpose yet, so I can't get into specifics on the spell. My main concern is what is the proper procedure when performing spells for others who give you permission? All I can find on the Internet and in books is make sure they give you permission, but I can't find anything on how to perform a spell for someone else. I want to make sure what I do is safe and effective. Thank you for your help!
Blessed Be,

Dear Harlow,
That is one reason that the Internet and books may not be sufficient for your learning! The answer to your question depends on how much experience the other person has with energy work. All spells with or upon another person can be tricky, since you're adding his energy into the equation. Even if he verbally states that he accepts your energetic gift, he may subconsciously work to repel it! It is important to practice working with the person's energy before the spell, if you are not experienced with such things! If you want to be on the safe side, you could choose to make your friend a charm, like you suggested. That way, the energy being radiated can be steady, and no longer directly connected to your activity. Your friend can choose to interact with the energy, or to put it aside if he does not like its effects.
Light!
Alexandra
