Ask A Witch: Magic Phobic in Portland, OR
Dear Alexandra,
I have read the books, went to the web-sites, gotten supplies, but I am still scared of actually practicing any magick. Is it true that anyone can be a witch if they have a good heart and are serious about it? I have wanted to become a witch ever since I could remember. When I learned about Wicca I knew that religion was for me. But I'm scared that I can't use or do magick. I'm scared that maybe I'm an exception and I'm the only one in the world who can't be a witch. Please give me some reassurance and advice to help me get over this worrying.

Dear MP,
Though anyone has the potential to use magic, I'll be the first to tell you that Wicca isn't for everyone. Anyone interested in any form of witchcraft or magical practice must develop the skill and discipline with practice and dedication. I would advise against trying to cast a spell if you are afraid of magic. Many spells are pure willpower and emotion set in motion. If your overriding emotion is fear, you can see how your spell might go in the wrong direction and not work too well! If you want, you can sprinkle magic in your everyday life with rituals of devotion and worship. You can always stir your food clockwise, or make a wish on a stray eyelash. Magic is all around you, and if you have no reason to push yourself past your comfort zone, I want to reassure you that you don't have to!
Light!
Alexandra
