Ask A Witch: Natural Witch in Rock Island, IL

Dear Alexandra,

I am a person deeply intrigued by the powers of witchcraft. I am angered over the disdain looked upon by those whom call themselves "natural witches".  It angers me when Wiccans and other peoples of the mystic world see us as pompous and arrogant.  I believe I am a natural witch. But when I say I am a natural witch, I believe that I was a witch in my past lives. I also believe I was born with special abilities (wind, telepathy, clairvoyance). But I am not here to complain. I would like to know what is your view of naturally born witches.

Dear NW,

I think that the problem occurs over semantics. Modern Witches are nothing like the "witches" of old, even though they can be an inspiration. Many Wiccans choose to look at the facts, and put their trust in the known history of Wicca. After all, Wiccan Witches have only been recognized since the 1950's. We can't yet have many people claiming the title of "fifth generation Wiccan" or similar! When looking at the budding religion of Wicca, it's easy to be confused by someone who takes pride in being a descendent of a village healer who, though considered a witch by some, is clearly not Wiccan.

My personal opinion is that everyone has the potential to be a "natural witch" since, witchcraft is a natural practice. Some choose to develop their skills, and others do not. No witches were born with nothing to learn in this lifetime, so it is pointless to argue over how much witchiness a person has accrued so far! It's all about the journey, anyway!

Light!
Alexandra
