Ask A Witch: Sad Adult Daughter in Washington, DC

Dear Alexandra

I have a problem. My mom has a boyfriend, since my parents have split up, and ever since my mom got together with him, she started to act really weird. She was even looking at sex books! And when she or her boyfriend has to go pick my brother up from work, they always go together and don't ask if I want to go. They just leave me at my home. I try to talk to her, but she doesn't understand! This never happened to her before! It makes me uncomfortable that they sleep together in the same bed at her home I wish my mom was back to her normal self. I go to counseling, but its too hard to say stuff out loud. I feel like someone is listening to me in another room it is very embarrassing! I want my mom back! What should I do?

Sincerely,

Sad Adult Daughter in Washington, DC

Dear SAD,

It's hard when your mother is going through some changes. And things are never going to be exactly the same as they were before your parents split up. You will have to find ways to cope with the changes that are going on in your life. Remember, your mother is just searching for a way to be happy. And you can help her. Do talk to your counselor about it. It can be embarrassing to talk about, but also very helpful, as your counselor knows you better and will be able to give you better advice as to how to cope. Continue trying to talk to your mother about how you feel. Set aside a time to talk with her when the two of you can be alone. Tell her what you liked about the way she used to be. She may not be able to change back, but she might be able to spend some more time with you to renew your relationship.

Light!

Alexandra
