Ask A Witch: She Smites in Boyne City, MI

Dear Alexandra,

Can you tell me how to make right a wrong that may have occurred to a Goddess? Let's say a person on earth was visited by the Goddess Hecate and not believing she was a Goddess, made fun of Her and really... quite frankly... pissed Her off. As one of the things that Hecate rules is luck on earth, the person who (unknowingly) ridiculed the lovely Goddess  has suffered much bad luck on earth. Is there a ritual that a person could do to apologize? Is there such a thing as apologizing to a Goddess? The person realizes that she shouldn't have treated anyone that way, let alone a Goddess.  I truly need an answer to this question.

Thanks, blessed be,
She Smites in Boyne City, MI

Dear She Smites,

The Greeks had a word for such human arrogance towards the Gods: "Hubris." At times, the most annoying Pagan value can be self-accountability. Though they believed in some cases that such an action cannot be completely undone with any kind of forgiveness (we always reap what we sow, and actions always have consequences), part of getting over such consequences is forgiving one's self. Perhaps learning about the symbols and myths of the Goddess in question may answer some mysteries. Performing a ritual to forgive the self, acknowledge wrongdoing and pledge a future ideal may be the way to salvation. Remember that there is another saying, "if that which thou seekest thou findest not within thee, thou wilt never find it without thee."

Light!
Alexandra
