Ask A Witch: Veiled Baby Mother in Mount Vernon, WA

Dear Alexandra,

Can you give me any information about people born with black veils? At least, I think that's what it's called! It looks like a spider web covering the face. Have you ever heard of this? If so, can you tell me what this is supposed to mean? I have searched everywhere for an answer, however the only thing I found about the webbing is a "caudrel" for which fishermen paid huge amounts of money, as they though tit would keep their boats from sinking. I would like to know what is supposed to cause this webbing and how it affects the person.

Dear VBM,

Such a veil is also called a "caul". It is just a little bit of membrane from the amniotic sack and is rare but natural and doesn't harm the baby at all. A caulbearer is said to be lucky and powerful! You are also right that fishermen would buy cauls for good luck and safe journeys at sea and to protect against drowning.

Light!
