Ask A Witch: Wondering in Boston, MA

Dear Alexandra,

First of all, to be honest, I never thought I would be writing one of these questions that I've seen in newspaper articles and magazines, but I guess now I can't deny what my soul is telling me to do. I really want to know! I know there are so many different forms of Wicca, but is Wicca always so happy and naturalistic? I mean I'm Gothic, and I have been following Wicca for quite some time now. But I feel as if when I tell people of my religion and then they look at me,

I am giving my fellow witches a bad name. Because of people's unfortunate misconceptions, Gothic people are either Wiccan or Satanist. But I am sort of a dark and gloomy person but Wicca definitely looks like the path I want to follow. I have read of some Dark Wiccan traditions and so-forth, but I have been labeling things too much. But anyhow, all I'm asking is what your view is; if I should follow one of the dark Wicca tribes or whatever else. Thank You.

Dear Wondering,

When you choose to label yourself as "Gothic" you also choose the way that others see you. If you approach Wiccans while appearing Gothic, you will get a reaction, just as you will with many people. After all, many people choose to be Gothic just to get a reaction out of people! Many Wiccans may believe that because you are Gothic you are not genuine, so be prepared for this reaction. Of course I am never going to recommend any "dark" magical path, because black magic may cause harm to the practitioner, and I will not recommend anything that will harm you. But I will recommend that you follow your bliss.

Light!

Alexandra
