#BellyBomb - Share With The Belly-Dancers You Know
So, those of you who know me probably know that I've been dancing belly-dance for the past year for my body, mind and spirit and am a member of a visionary dance troupe called the Neighbourhood Temple Priestesses. We already know that we're hip (if you'll forgive the pun), but I have a zany scheme of how to have fun proving it. The Dizzy Feet Foundation is promoting National Dance Day on July 31st, mostly using the popular television show
So You Think You Can Dance as a medium.
National Dance Day "encourages the nation, young and old, to move... through their creative expression in dance. Any style of dance is welcome and imagination is recommended... t
o continue to generate national
awareness for dance, a medium of expression and storytelling which... has proven its value in
bringing individuals from all walks of life together through a positive
platform that has no boundaries and cultivates imagination and passion.
Most importantly, the day is intended to promote health and wellness
nationwide."
So You Think You Can Dance choreographers, Napoleon and Tabitha, have even put together 32 seconds worth of hip-hop choreography to get everyone off the couch. Presumably there will be many video replies to their
YouTube tutorial. Wouldn't it be fun if most of them are belly-dancers? I mean, they only choreographed hip-hop to 32 seconds of a 3 minute and 53 second song (optionally repeating the choreography only fits in one more time)! I'd love to see belly-dance ambassadors showing their style before and after busting those moves in video responses.
It might even get on TV, and then they'd be encouraged to let more belly-dancers through auditions next season. At the very least it will be fun. I've been practicing their hip-hop routine (
see a sneak-preview 12-second clip) to get my six-months pregnant butt off the couch, and plan to belly-dance before and after the point in the song in which it fits, so stay tuned even if you're not planning to dance.
