How To Go Out Of The Psychic Business With Grace And Dignity

This subject was anonymously requested for inclusion in my series for professional psychics. After all, what psychic wants to have to hang up a sign that says "Closed Forever Due To Unforseen Circumstances" and then hear everyone laughing and saying, "shouldn't she have seen it coming?" But in the reality of this high-turnover industry, I'm seeing too many of my friends disappear just to avoid the mocking, ending their careers in obscurity and shame, frustrating clients and deprecating the profession as a whole. Follow these three tips to create a glowing memory of your career!

1.)  Be Frank About Your Reasons

You've spent your career illuminating the dark and chasing away old myths and stereotypes. Don't let vilification and misunderstanding double in the wake of your departure! Intuitive spiritual leaders don't necessarily lead a charmed and changeless life, and that can be a powerful lesson to your clientele. They know you were there for them due to destiny, so explain to them why your destiny leads you elsewhere and why your career has finished giving you all that it was meant to have given! Retirement and moving on to new phases of life are neither shocking nor unusual, even for psychics! Arrange a grand send-off and allow your community to congratulate you!

2.)  Pass The Torch Well

You might be worried about playing favourites with your friends, or about how you don't have the time to personally test each and every psychic you know! Think about the top two other roles that your successor must fulfill. First, he or she must be an example of stability, so look for somebody with longevity in the industry. If your successor happens to go out of business soon after you, it may devastate your clients! Secondly, he or she should be well connected with a network within the psychic community. Even if you pick the best psychic you've ever experienced, chances are he or she won't be right for everyone! Thus, you must find someone who can continue the referral process and help your clients find the right fit for them long after all of this is far from your mind.

3.)  Tie Up Loose Ends

Don't just pick a successor, but work with him or her throughout the process and make sure that you're pointing all your signs, phone messages, web-sites, social networks and email auto-replies in the right direction! Have you reported to your federal and state Departments of Revenue that your business is now closed? If not, you will still be responsible for filing even if you aren't making a penny! Talk with a financial planner! Are you selling your company? What is happening to your good name and trademarks after you're not watching like a hawk? Talk with an attorney!

If you follow these three tips you'll have gone a long way towards ensuring that you won't leave gossip and chaos haunting you! The only thing to worry about now is planning a big send-off party and stepping forward through that open door to the rest of your experiences! The chapter in your life that was a professional psychic has been written, but the book is yet unfinished, so don't let it gather dust under the bed! Whether you've given our industry decades of steady service, or this was just a whirlwind adventure, I wish you and yours luck on whatever new destiny you've chosen!

She's still happy to work with any psychic who is transitioning out of his or her career, but asks for a committment to her three tips!  (Photo at left by Kyle Cassidy.)
