I'm a Client Too

I bicycled about 9 miles today and took a bus to a divination with Iyas Onifa (and Adeola) at Forces of Nature Metaphysical Centre. They're such sweet ladies.  Like a fool, I bent my bike rims because I rode around on flat tires without even noticing for a couple days!

My divination was very interesting. Divination with the Ifa (cowrie shells) is kind of like a cross between astrology, a tarot reading, a fortune cookie and a Magic 8 ball. It is WAY more complicated than any other divination I've seen so far. Basically, the shells indicate a selected piece of a huge body of knowledge (stories, advice, prescriptions, correspondences). I can't put into writing right now how eloquent some of it was, but I'll put a bit of what I remember. Obatala owns my head, counteracting my firey nature. He is there to help me not fight to not be who I am in the head, but rather to ground things so that I can just tilt my head and watch the dance outside. He likes people to eat and wear white or light things, and enjoys offerings in twos. Yemaja is helping me heal right now. Oh, and Oshun rules my feet, giving me the creativity and encouraging me to capriciously follow my passions, for however short a time as they may last. I listened carefully for anything that might have to do with my career as a spiritual advisor. I heard that writing is a part of who I am and defending women and children is part of a spiritual contract made before I chose to come to this planet this time around.

Oddly, the divination indicated eventual Priestesshood and initiations in Vodou (and named a very demanding lwa, Mami Wata). They even said I'd have my own temple someday. (I wondered if that was in reference to my Wiccan initiation.) I know they primarily practice Ifa, and only recently hold initiations in Vodou, so I have the sneaking suspicion they wished that the divination indicated a huge investment in my part in Ifa! But they seemed excited nonetheless. It was flattering, and they weren't pushy about any recruitment. They said that prescriptions for initiations traditionally happen more often after mental-illnesses. They said it wasn't about going through them for things (I could fill my prescriptions elsewhere), and that I could just choose what to do with the information. It was all very flattering at the very least!

# re: I'm a Client Too

Good Morning. I just found your blog! And I truly find it inspiring and quite interesting.
I wanted to share with you something that I have been taught. I do not know if you are Vodoun or are going to be iniated...as well as Ifa ...but so as I have been taught to keep my cards close to me. Meaning this, It is often risky to allow others freely to know who is "on" or "rules" ones Head. As it can be used against you. In these Religions and practices you are considered absolutley an "innocent" because of what we have been taught of mental illness. Anyone who harms you, causes you ill will etc. Will have more than they expect if they attempt or intend to cause you strife or worse. They will have the Lwa and Orisha's to answer to! But still since Each region of the states and world are different, and it seems alot of people who  find there way to Vodou,Ifa,Santeria,etc...have previously studied or practiced Wicca or other pagan crafts. But not everyone follows a "do no harm" type attitude or way. Which I am positve you already know. I tend to be protective of those who are "touched." The same way in Vodou,Vodu,Voodoo (whichever you have been taught to say, spell, pronounce depending on your "kay"-House etc.or region where you live and learn and practice your faith. Example, One would not openly take photos or just show anyone one's Family Ancesteral altar as one can use it to harm you, the same goes with when you have been told who in "on" or "rules" your head. If one has not ever mentioned this to you, then I hope you do not mind me sharing what I was taught with you. Not everyone follows this, but it is how I was taught, and still being, like I said I tend to be very protective. If you have read Ross Heaven's book you will see what I mean how an innocent can be harmed when there are those who may take advantage,or intend ill will. I trust deeply in my Lwa and the Orisha and the protection and light I am blessed with. But still, I am cautious of potential exploiters,or those who are prefer to cause trouble. I belive one can be trusting yet careful in equal balance. I hope you find this helpful to you now I feel better that I have shared it. I could not have left your page and not mentioned this, it would not feel right or ok to me to go on with my day.
Congradulations on all your sucess. I very much am excited to have found your blog.
Take great Care.

Ashe
