I'm a Client Too
I bicycled about 9 miles today and took a bus to a divination with Iyas Onifa (and Adeola) at Forces of Nature Metaphysical Centre. They're such sweet ladies. Like a fool, I bent my bike rims because I rode around on flat tires without even noticing for a couple days!
My divination was very interesting. Divination with the Ifa (cowrie shells) is kind of like a cross between astrology, a tarot reading, a fortune cookie and a Magic 8 ball. It is WAY more complicated than any other divination I've seen so far. Basically, the shells indicate a selected piece of a huge body of knowledge (stories, advice, prescriptions, correspondences). I can't put into writing right now how eloquent some of it was, but I'll put a bit of what I remember. Obatala owns my head, counteracting my firey nature. He is there to help me not fight to not be who I am in the head, but rather to ground things so that I can just tilt my head and watch the dance outside. He likes people to eat and wear white or light things, and enjoys offerings in twos. Yemaja is helping me heal right now. Oh, and Oshun rules my feet, giving me the creativity and encouraging me to capriciously follow my passions, for however short a time as they may last. I listened carefully for anything that might have to do with my career as a spiritual advisor. I heard that writing is a part of who I am and defending women and children is part of a spiritual contract made before I chose to come to this planet this time around.
Oddly, the divination indicated eventual Priestesshood and initiations in Vodou (and named a very demanding lwa, Mami Wata). They even said I'd have my own temple someday. (I wondered if that was in reference to my Wiccan initiation.) I know they primarily practice Ifa, and only recently hold initiations in Vodou, so I have the sneaking suspicion they wished that the divination indicated a huge investment in my part in Ifa! But they seemed excited nonetheless. It was flattering, and they weren't pushy about any recruitment. They said that prescriptions for initiations traditionally happen more often after mental-illnesses. They said it wasn't about going through them for things (I could fill my prescriptions elsewhere), and that I could just choose what to do with the information. It was all very flattering at the very least!
