A Tale of a Tail
I keep my cats indoors to protect the local wildlife. However, the local wildlife doesn’t always appreciate my consideration. I came home the other day to find my cats crouched in a circle, their attention fixed on something in a way that signaled Trouble. I was just in time to whisk a small fat lizard away from the Jaws of Death.
On inspection he seemed uninjured, apart from the loss of his tail. It had served its purpose, diverting the cats’ attention just long enough for me to achieve his rescue. I released him into the shrubbery with a severe warning not to scuttle under the door again, and with a wiggle of his shiny body he was gone.
Life is like that. We are given second chances. We may be a bit battle scarred, but as long as we are alive to fight another day, anything can happen. We never know what’s around the corner. As they say, “it’s always darkest before dawn.”
