Are You Listening?
Two and a half years ago my husband came off his motorbike and broke his collarbone. He has been in pain ever since. Every time he saw a doctor he would say that it felt to him as though the bone was moving, but the response was always the same – do your physiotherapy exercises and take some pain killers. Stoically, he did as instructed, with no improvement.
A few weeks ago he developed a severe lung infection with the result that he needed chest x- rays. Looking at the film, we observed that his collarbone appeared to have moved from where it was in the original x-rays. Armed with these pictures he went back to see a doctor once more. The doctor insisted that it was healed, but sent him off for some scans to see if anything else was wrong.
Guess what? The scans showed that the bone had never knitted and was moving about just as he said it was. Today he goes for the surgery that should have been done two and half years ago, and he should finally be pain free after all this time.
There’s a moral here. Not everyone screams their pain from the roof tops. And not all the messages that the Universe sends hit you on the head like a cosmic brick. Awareness is about looking for the subtle signs as well as the obvious ones, about hearing the whispers as well as the shouts. Are YOU listening?
