Infertility is a very distressing problem. There was a time when women were more likely than men to be the ones with fertility problems, but the trend has now swung the other way.

Fortunately it is a problem that can frequently be corrected with changes in diet and lifestyle. Lack of zinc is often one of the causes for men as the tail of the sperm is made almost entirely of zinc. Boosting such vitamins as Vitamin C, E and B6 is also helpful.

There is also evidence that eating soy products can lower male fertility;

Giving up smoking and weight loss are also important to boost fertility. Both partners need to quit smoking. It is one of the single most common causes of infertility. Weight loss can work wonders. Only a small drop in weight can trigger conception. I had a friend who used to work for Jenny Craig. She said that time and time again a client would start losing weight and then drop out because they got pregnant!

Before you hit the fertility clinic, try improving your lifestyle. By the way, unless you’ve been trying unsuccessfully for 18 months or more you are not regarded as having a “problem”. Panicking because you don’t get pregnant right off does NOT help as stress uses vital nutrients and can add to fertility problems. Many pregnancies occur when people stop trying.
