Being sick is very costly in all sorts of ways. When times are tough, ill health is the last thing we need. Here are some tips to help you stay away from the doctor. This will improve your financial health and increase your job security as well.

  1. An apple a day really does help keep the doctor away. Apples have health benefits too numerous to mention. While you’re shopping, pick up other fresh fruits and vegetables. The more fresh fruits and vegetables you eat, the healthier you’ll be. If you’re not eating 7 serves daily you’re not eating enough!
  2. Take your vitamins. The “recommended daily allowances” are very conservative, averages at best, and less than adequate in times of stress. Very few people get sufficient Vitamin C, so at the very least take that. But fish oils, and mineral supplements that include zinc and added calcium are also essential.
  3. Exercise! If you hate exercise, there are still ways to be more active. Walk faster. Use the stairs. Park further from entrances. Find things you do enjoy – belly dancing; aqua aerobics; walking your dog. Move it! Or pay the price…
  4. Sleep. If you burn the candle at both ends it will cost you dearly when your body succumbs to the next virus that’s going around. Getting adequate sleep is essential to the repair processes the body carries out during rest periods. Guess what? More exercise will help you to sleep better….
  5. Build up your first aid supplies. Medicines are expensive. Old fashioned remedies really work. Eucalyptus oil is great for colds. Lavender is good for bites, stings and minor burns. Tea tree cures skin infections like athletes foot.

As grandma used to say: an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure!
