Caution For Cat Lovers
I have just received a very disturbing phone call from a friend, warning me about an over-the-counter product for worming cats. My friend is about to receive a visit from her grand daughter, so she decided to do the right thing and worm her animals before the little girl came to stay. She bought a tube of worming paste from the supermarket and gave it to both her cats.
She followed all the directions, weighing both cats before administering it. One cat was just fine, but the other one showed all the signs of poisoning. She rushed him to her vet but he was unable to save her beloved companion.
It can’t have been the product itself, as both cats were dosed from the same tube, but perhaps it contained an ingredient that was toxic to him. He had been wormed many times before with no ill effects, but only with products supplied by her vet. The vet told her that it is not the first time he has seen it happen. The warning is clear. Don’t risk using unfamiliar over-the-counter products, no matter how reputable the brand. Get the vet to worm your cats, so you don’t suffer the heartache she is now experiencing. She is devastated, riddled with guilt about inadvertently poisoning her own cat, and her cat loving friends are all in shock.
