Choosing a Crystal
If you are new to buying crystals it is probably best to buy from a specialised crystal shop. The retailer will tend to be quite knowledgeable, and you are less likely to end up with an inferior crystal or something that is fraudulent.
Don’t be afraid to ask questions. In fact, ask lots of them! If you are not satisfied with the answers, go elsewhere. Be wary of anyone who tries to pressure you into buying something large and expensive, or who insists that you “need” a certain crystal. If you are not comfortable, respect your feelings and walk out.
Try to allow plenty of time, so you feel relaxed and can tune in to the energy of the crystals. The “right” crystal for you is the one you are reluctant to put down, that you don’t want to walk away from. It may not be particularly beautiful, or a fine specimen piece. It may not be what you thought you came in to buy. But it will “call” to you.
It is not uncommon to buy a crystal, thinking it is a gift for someone else, and then find it impossible to part with it. Don’t feel guilty. You are not being greedy or mean spirited. The crystal has decided that for now it wishes to belong to you. Just go back to the shop and buy another crystal for your friend!
In the same way as a crystal decides to become part of your life, it may also decide to move on. Try not to be upset if you “lose” a crystal – it may be that it is time for it to move on. Pay attention to sudden “impulses” to give a particular crystal to someone else. It may be that the crystal is now theirs, not yours, as we do not really “own” them. As it is with our children, we merely share our lives with them for a while.
If you become bewildered or overwhelmed by choice, go and have a cup of coffee. After a while you may become aware of a particular crystal that you can’t seem to get out of your mind. This is the one for you! If nothing “speaks” to you it may be that you are not ready to buy one, or that the crystal you need is simply not there. Don’t worry, it will find its way to you in due course.
Having said all that, if a crystal calls to you from the “wrong” place at the “wrong” time, follow your instincts and buy it anyway!
