Over the years I have done many readings for people who have lost their jobs. I have noticed something really interesting. Not once have I done a reading for someone who has lost their “dream job.” When questioned, every single person I have talked to has said that the job they lost was one they were not happy with in some way. Interesting…

In this period of economic uncertainty, more jobs are bound to go to the wall. If it happens to you, or if you know someone it has already happened to, I found a book that is a great resource for anyone in this situation:

“Congratulations! You've Been Fired: Sound Advice for Women Who've Been Terminated” by Emily Koltnow

Although it is directed primarily at women, it’s got some good ideas for everyone. Its basic premise is that termination is a great opportunity to review career direction and make some changes. It’s full of handy hints, wise advice and some really positive ways of making lemonade from the lemons you’ve been handed.

Losing your job is no picnic. It’s scary and it’s distressing. But it doesn’t have to be the end of the world. Check out Ms Koltnow’s book from your local library. Or find a secondhand copy on Ebay or through a secondhand book dealer network like Abe Books or Powells as you may want to make some notes. A reading may also help you to identify skills and assets that you don’t realize you have, to add to your resume.

Congratulations! You’ve been fired!
