Crystals are like most other things – from time to time they need to be given a good clean up. Every few weeks, get out your collection and take a look at it. Start by giving them all a good wash in warm soapy water. Gently dust or vacuum those that can’t be washed and expose them to some sunlight and fresh air.

Some crystals benefit from being buried in the soil for a day or two every few months. If you are scared of losing them, burying them in the soil of a pot plant works just as well and is less scary than burying them in the great outdoors!

If you can’t wash or bury a crystal, another method of cleansing is to use a tincture of hyssop. This is made by putting a few drops of the essential oil into a few teaspoons of alcohol such as vodka. Give the crystal a bit of a spritz using a spray bottle. The Native American Indians carried out cleansings by “smudging” with the smoke from smouldering sage.

If you have some crystals that no longer “speak” to you, consider giving them away. Relationships with crystals are like all other relationships – sometimes we outgrow them and need to move on. Think about your current needs. Is there a “gap” that needs to be filled? It might also be time to add to your collection.

Once your crystals are cleansed, the ones you keep for special purposes will need to be reprogrammed. Hold them in your hands while you think about what you want, and “charge” the crystal to help you achieve it. The final step is to note on the calendar the next time this task need to be repeated. A month is a good interval – six months is probably the longest you should leave it.
