Having problems sleeping? What you eat can assist with good sleep. Starchy foods such as pasta, rice, polenta, potatoes and bread encourage the body to produce sleep-promoting hormones. Eating fatty, fried and sugary foods, or drinking hot chocolate or coffee after mid afternoon, may have the opposite effect. Eating earlier rather than later in the evening also promotes good sleep, as do calcium rich foods such as milk. If you come home tired, it is still better to eat than to wait until morning, provided you don't over eat. It will help to prevent waking with hunger pangs part way through the night.  Too tired to cook? Have a glass of milk.
