It’s no wonder men and women don’t understand each other. While the average man stuffs a wallet and a set of keys into his pocket before leaving the house, a new survey estimates Australian women spend $1.7 billion a year on handbags alone. The average female pays $249 annually to keep pace with the latest trends, while one in five under the age of 35 has at least 20 bags sitting in her wardrobe.

What are women trying to prove? That you CAN take it with you? Ask a woman to tip the contents of her purse out, and watch the men in the vicinity roll their eyes. She’s got breath mints, tissues, three ballpoint pens, painkillers, a can opener plus last year’s calendar – and that’s only in the outside pocket!

Why do women haul enough Stuff around to equip a small army? Is it some form of security? Perhaps their gathering instincts run amuck? Well, before the men start laughing too hard, maybe they need to remember this. When they are stuck for a pen and paper to write down the license plate of that car that just side swiped them, who do they turn to? Yup, that’s right – the female who’s got that massive purse hanging off her shoulder.

Maybe we understand each other all too well…..
