Australian hospitals use a miracle germ killing substance in the air conditioning units of their operating theatres. What is it? Oil of Eucalyptus. It’s the same stuff Grandma used to sprinkle round the neck of your PJs when you had the snuffles, or had you inhale via a steam bath. And guess what – it’s been found to have both anti viral and anti bacterial properties. Aren’t those Old Wives remedies just great!

When I feel the beginnings of a cold coming on, I take a couple of teaspoons of eucalyptus oil and rub it on the soles of my feet. The skin is tough there so it doesn’t irritate or burn. Then I put my socks on and go to bed. It travels straight up the spinal column and spreads out to nuke those germs. It isn’t exactly Chanel Number 5, but if your nose is stuffy you can’t smell it, and no one else at home will mind if it gets rid of your cold. For extra oomph add some Oil of Tea tree to the blend.

Eucalyptus Oil is really cheap, and did you know it also removes glue residues and chewing gum? Every home should have a bottle in the medicine chest.
