"To affirm anything is to state that it is so, and to maintain this as being true in the face of all evidence to the contrary. Repeating an affirmation is leading the mind to that state of consciousness where it accepts that which it wishes to believe."

- Ernest Holmes (1887-1960) from The Science of Mind

The idea of using an affirmation is to repeat over and over a positive statement until it becomes true. For example, “I’m beating this cancer – I am manifesting wellness.”

So why is that affirmations seem to work for some people and not for others? A lot of it has to do with where in the brain you store the affirmation. The brain is like a filing cabinet. It has sections dedicated to specific activities. In a right handed person, the “fact file” is located just above and to the left of the left eye.

Try this for yourself. Attempt to recall the name of your first grade teacher. Then “feel” where you are searching. Your eyes will be rolling towards that area, and you will be able to sense where in the brain you are looking for that information. That’s where affirmations need to go – into that Fact File.

The brain has another place it puts things that it is uncertain about. You don’t want your affirmation to go in there. Successful people instinctively know this, which is why affirmations work for them. If you’ve had little success with affirmations in the past, make sure that you “feel” for the right place in your brain and consciously direct your affirmations towards it. It will make all the difference!

Here are some sample affirmations to try:

“I am vibrant with energy and good health”

“Abundance flows freely around me”

“I love and I am loved”

“I attract only healthy relationships”

“I choose to be happy every minute of every day”

As you believe, so shall you receive.
