Mind - Body
Brace yourself! If you’ve had a loss or a breakup, or suffered some other distressing event in your life, chances are you’ll get sick. When our mental resistance is down, our physical resistance is also lowered. So it’s really important to take special care when dealing with emotionally disturbing events.
Take extra vitamins, especially vitamin C with zinc and/or Echinacea. Eat small regular meals. Get as good a night’s sleep as you can manage. Try to avoid sudden temperature changes, especially chills and dampness. If you do fall sick, get on to it promptly. Don’t ignore it and make it worse.
If you know someone who is undergoing a distressing change, be aware that they may be vulnerable to illness. This is particularly relevant if you have aging parents. Even the loss of a beloved pet can trigger a round of ill health. Be vigilant and you may be able to minimize the impact.
With the holidays just around the corner, many people are feeling the effects of sadness. Getting sick on top of everything else is the last thing you need. The mind/body connection is strong. Awareness is everything. You may not be able to completely prevent it, but you can at least minimize its impact.
